Yes good to know you are stepping on the brake.
However the most common cause of the shift interlock failing to activate is the brake light switch.
You can go dash diving and watch the switch as the brake pedal is pushed and see when the brake lights come on, sometimes the rubber plug in the brake pedal arm comes out or loose.
The next most common cause....Remember all those colas that spilled on the center console.
All that sticky fluid is around the shaft of the interlock solenoid gumming it up. LOL
When the engine is running and you step on the brake you should hear the solenoid under the center console.
If not check for brake lights.....none that would point to the brake switch.

Brake lights and no interlock solenoid action leads to pulling the center console and seeing if the solenoid is getting power from the brake switch, or cleaning the solenoid plunger shaft.

Blue moon LOL what a flash back.... when I worked at the Fletcher dealership it was "only happens on the third thursday of the month only if there is a blue moon"

I'm having this issue right now. Worked fine yesterday.
Start the car. Wait a moment. Press brake pedal and attempt to shift from park
I don't hear that clicking sound when I press the brake, however I do have all brake lights. Horn works. Backup lights.
When I manually put it in Drive the car accelerates like it's in 3rd or 4th.
D1 and D2 seem to be the same gear. And the same with D3 and D4 seem like the same gear too. Also, the sport mode dash light doesn't work either. Pushing the button does nothing for that feature.
I drive around town manually shifting between D2 and D3. I believe there's only 2nd and 4th working. But this is only happening when I have to shift lock release from park.
this happened before and one day it was normal again. All help is appreciated, thank you
