Default balance shafts

what is the correct position for the balance shafts when the motor is at TDC?... how do i tell if they're in the correct position?... i hope i worded this all right and thanks for any help.

On the front balance shaft there is a mark to line up. On the rear one there is a little bolt that you have to take out on the back of the block and stick something in the resulting hole. At least that's how the service manual says to do it. On mine there was a mark from whoever did the previous timing belt job so I just used those and it was good to go. I'm sure someone else can chime in as to how to do it normally
