is it neccessary to completely remove the timing belt when replacing/upgrading the camshaft, as long as you mark where the belt was at in proportion to the cam gear? the last time i removed my head, all i had to do was slip the t-belt off the cam gear and it slid on almost as easily.
it just seems like a lot of work removing the crank pulley/t-belt in order to get the camshaft removed.
TIA
btw: im running a JDM d15b sohc VTEC

and to get to the tensioner you need to remove all that crap, assuming my timing is fine, i don't imagine i would need to remove all that ****.... ?

To get at the tensioner you need to remove the T Belt covers which usually require removal of the crank pulley.
How old is your T-belt? If you're already in there, you might as well replace it.

the engine was purchased in feb '08 from nippon motors, so it should be a fairly low mileage t belt. i have some pics of it in a thread i posted a little bit ago if you care to take a look. i tried taking that damn thing off before with no luck haha, but i was doing it by myself (I ended up breaking my craftsman breaker bar, and my IR impact gun [the expensive one] couldn't bust it off either)
here's a link https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2310647 help in this thread would be great, my new camshaft is going in tomorrow.
if the timing is off like it might be in the other thread, can't i just adjust it by setting the crank to TDC and aligning the cam gear the same way? (that's how i've always read to do it)

If you said it was fairly easy to slide the belt off and then back on without touching the tensioner, chances are the belt is stretched, and you may be at risk of slipping over the gear, causing more problems.
If it were me, I would just bite the bullet and replace the belt, and be 100% re-assured instead of just waiting for it to break some day.

Yeah, otherwise you'll watch your interrupter engine explode before your eyes.

i really dont have a problem removing the belt, but so far its been 2-0 crank pulley > me haha.
timing belt is really not in my budget right now, because it seems to be fine and its actually not very easy to slide on and off, but i know i can if i tried. do i need to remove the t-belt cover to access the tensioner? i'll do a search, but i figured id ask while i was posting this anyway...

How will you actually put tension on the tensioner if you can't touch it. Sure you can loosen the bolt and the tensioner, but then how are you supposed to get pressure on the tensioner pulley again. They have a very small, weak spring on them.

A wise man once told me if i cant afford the proper parts, or labor, I cant afford to replace my engine.
