2001 F4i Turnsignal and Tail light issues, PICS included
Hello all,
Recently picked up a 2001 F4i that has some minor wiring issues. The turn signals do not work and when you select a right turn the emergency flashes come on? The tail light does not work either. I have found this mess of wiring that is probably responsible for all this and was wondering if anybody could give me some input. If someone could take a picture of their current wiring that would help out also.
Thanks

You need to get a wiring diagram and 'rebuild' that end of the subframe harness, wire by wire. Unfortunately there's no other option or quick fix but its not that bad - there's only a handful of wires to trace back.

the wiring that still has the factory connectors on it, did they originally go to the rear turn signals?
EDIT: I found a schematic but need a picture of the factory wiring harness so I can identify the factory wiring harness by color. If someone could snap a picture similar to the ones shown that would help out a ton.

i cant tell from your mess of wires, but the 01-03 F4i should have 5 plugs.
2 are for the brake lights. each plug to each bulb should have 3 weires. ground, constant, and brake.
there should be another grey plug, with only 2 wires.. tahts the licence plate light.
for the 4th and 5th plug, should be the orange, and blue tab'ed connectors... those are for the turn signals. each of those should have 2 wires also.
so... you have 5 connections. the turn signals, and lic. light have 2 wires to each. the tail light (2 plugs to each seperate bulb) should have 3. a ground, a running light and a brake light signal.
what you need to do is take that plastic tail off, and physically look at each item. see where the wires from each turn signal come from. follow that wire to the plug.
also.. does your bike have flush mounts, or any type of aftermarket front turns? some times poeple use LED's, which aren't dual filament (running lights & blink) and wire them all together, and mess **** up.

also, reading your 1st post again.. you siad with the right turn, the emergency flashers come on....... our bikes doesn't have hazard lights. so you must have the a problem where the left and right blinker wires are tapped into each other...
do the turn signal indicators on the gauge's blink both also, or only right... and both lights are on? that would mean a wiring problem.. if both left and right signals are on the gauge.. you bike is possessed.
