Default Got a ticket need to vent(kinda long)

So my battery died after I got to work when the day was over went turned the key no power whatsoever. Took the seat off pulled the battery b/c last time this happened had issues with the terminals so disconnected the battery still nothing, so had a co-worker jump me. Going home I get on the freeway and notice that the speedo is reading 125 I'm like holy @%^& I don't think im going that fast b/c I'm not flying by traffic look over and its reading km/h I was like oh crap I have no clue how fast I'm going (BTW speed limit is 70) all I remember from reading magazines and whatnot is 60mph is roughly 96km/h. So, I'm watching my speedo staying b/t 120-125km/h hoping I don't get pulled over cause state patrol loves sitting on this freeway no sooner than I think that I pass a cop and immediatley see his lights go on gets behind me I pull over and leave the bike on cause I doubt it would start if I turned it off he comes over and says turn off the bike and get off I say I can't the battery died I had to get jumped I don't think it will start if I turn it off. He asks the usual know why I pulled you over I say yes I do I was probably speeding and here's why and I tell him the story and SHOW HIM MY SPEEDO CLEARLY READING KM/H. He asks do you know how to switch it back I said no i don't (because I honestly don't know) I said it says in my owners manual I'm going home right now to switch it I just got off work. Then the ******* says well I have to cite you I say why is that I don't know km/h do you he says no i don't i say so how do I deserve this ticket I wasn't blatanly speeding. We argue for about 2-3 minutes he is not budging on the issue I finally say you know what this bullshit is not worth wasting my gas that I just paid 4.09 for just give me your stupid ticket so I can go home and you can profile someother commuter and waste their time as well.
This is the part that REALLY pisses me off he clocked me at 76 there were people easily going 80+ and he finds me I was [freak]ing profiled and he couldn't give me a warning b/c the speedo changed.
Bottom line YES I should have known the functions of my bike YES I have read my owners manual many times but people forget stuff and I dont want to sit on the side of the interstate fiddling with my bike its dangerous. YES I should have probably stuck at 96km/h knowing what that speed is but i didn't. AND you all know how the highway is I'm not going to go 10-20mph slower and put myself in danger of the idiots going 80+ talking on their cell phones not paying attention and/or pissing people off by impedeing traffic. I just fail to see how I deserved a ticket given the circumstances can't wait to fight this bullshit.

YES, you need to add periods in your story.

Anyway, he got you for speeding. End of story. Even if you fight it, I highly doubt you'll win. It's happened to all of us. Just suck it in and eat it up. Sorry to hear about your bad day but the easiest thing to do is to pay for the ticket, take traffic school, and change your speedo back to MPH status yo..

76 in a 70 that is bullsh*t that you got pulled over in the first place. I know that some states allow for 5-10% speedometer fluctuation so that would still put you within limit and knowing that you were doing your best to gauge from kph to mph you just ran into a d*ck of a cop. There is no reason not to fight the ticket, whats the worst that could happen, you lose and have to pay the ticket. I know in Jersey they would drop that in an instant. Good luck

I thought the same thing they allow for that, and I've had friends get pulled over for 5 over and have gotten warnings or they have just fined them no point violation. I'm in the similar mindset what do I have to loose. Gonna call the DA tomorrow

same thing happened to me. i had just gotten on the freeway, wasnt going faster than traffic, wasnt going slower, i passed and was passed by nobody. i see the lights behind me and i honestly think he's going somewhere so i have to get out of his way. he tells me he's citing me for 75 in a 65. i tell him i know i was breaking the law, and ill pay the ticket for that but just for my own satisfaction please admit to me that i was being safe going with traffic and this ticket is all formality and no function. he said he cant say that. just push back the court date as far back as you can and by the time it comes around, even if the cop does show up, he wont remember what happened and itll be dropped right away.

Default FV-QR

How were you profiled? I also don't understand "the circumstances." You were speeding, and didn't know how to change the settings on your bike.

Cop-2
You-0

And for what the guy above me posted, how much is the ticket? If you have a decent job, it's cheaper to pay the ticket right away as opposed to skipping work and asking for continuances.

He was profiled because he got a 76 in a 70 ON THE FREAKING HIGHWAY! (In caps for dramatic effect, not to insult your intelligence)

first off, i paid the ticket because like i said in my story i knew i was speeding and i owned up to it. what i was trying to get was the cop to admit that in reality i was doing right by keeping up with traffic. i only put the part about delaying the court date to help the original poster should he decide to fight it.

One of my friends got a 59mph ticket in a 55 on an xr250... BS maybe but not much you can do about it. He went to court because he swore up and down he was doing 55, but the judge went with the CHP guy's word. He says there were cars doing 10 to 15 over right next to him..

Im going to say because he was on a bike. Cops are gay and end of story. All of them are crooked and have nothing better to do and they have to meet that end of the month quota that they claim they don't have.

saying all cops are the same and are crooked is as ignorant as saying all bikers are insane, inconsiderate ******** who don't care about their lives or anyone else's.

as for the quota, there really is no set official quota. do you really think it would be legal to say there WILL be this many people breaking the law? there are however norms. on a certain stretch of road at a certain time, there is an average number of tickets given out. if an officer is giving considerably more or less tickets than that average, he is going to be questioned.

If you had actually read and understood the point. How was I profiled I referenced that when I said he clocked me at 76 when there were people going 80+ EASILY I would say the majority/c lots of people were doing more than passing me all the cop sees is a sport bike he doesn't see nor care that the soccer mom or everyone and their mother driving a damn SUV going faster than hell.
What are the circumstances? First I was not blatanly speeding, me not knowing how fast I was going b/c i have no clue how to convert km/h I didn't change the setting it changed when I reconnected the battery. Perhaps you don't see it from my point of view I don't see how a I'm going to say "malfunction"(speedo changing to km/h) for lack of a better word justifies a ticket it was not my fault it changed. YES it was my fault for not knowing how to change it back. I got my bike in 2004 I read the owners manual many times after I got it but that was 4 years ago I don't remember little **** from that far back. There are varying degrees of law breaking while law breaking is still breaking the law best case I can think of..well look [freak]ing jaywalking is breaking the law a VERY minor infraction but is STILL breaking the law and people still do it whether they know it or not its the same in my case
But I guess since I don't have a pair of breasts popping out of my shirt there is no room to argue with the pigs.

Profiling happens everyday...You drive a honda and you are speeding alongside a ford focus.. guess what, the Honda is getting donkey punched. Atleast that's how it is where I'm from...Cops pull over sportbikes because they can, IMO they want to see who will run and who will pull over..I think it's a fuggin game for them personally..

Hire an attorney...Get it dropped...End O Story...

-Costs of an attorney over the cost of the ticket and insurance over time is less. Atleast it was for me...

Yeah, I've been profiled before too. I was only doing twice the speed limit in a 30 zone. What was that crooked pig thinking pulling me over?

Anyway, not all cops are crooked. I have driven my motorcycle daily for almost a year and half, and only been pulled over once, and that was due to the circumstances above. Most cops aren't bad people, just a few crooked pigs ruin the bunch.

No need to hire an attorney I don't need to waste money for someone to plead a simple case. I'm comfident i will get it dropped. The thought of running went thru my head but not worth it could wipe out and seriously injure myself or an innocent person I've gotten evading out of my system no matter how fast your bike is you can't outrun radio waves all they need is to radio ahead and road block or spike strip and im fawked

Always sucks getting picked out when you're going with the flow, but yeah that sounds about right for the cliff notes version. 77 is still speeding according to the books.

Always fight it. Always. Check for the officers training, gun calibration, his estimation before using gun, any weather or curves in the road disrupting his ability to properly use radar (was it radar or lidar you didnt say? I'll assume radar)? Were you in a heavy traffic area where you could easily prove within reasonable doubt he could have hit another car since they were going "faster" than you? Give use the detailed surroundings of the environment when it happened. Try the law section on radardetector.net, they have some pretty good help there usually.

While the memory is still fresh remember everything you can about the incident and prepare your case, getting mad about it doesn't solve anything. Having a well thought out case will.

If its an expensive ticket, get a traffic attorney.

Always go to court. Always.

Don't waste your time with the speedo, that doesn't prove anything, thats user error, in court that means nothing, ESPECIALLY if you admit to a speed you remember even if its in km/hr. You should have known how to operate your own equipment, mph is 6/10ths km/hr, math aint that hard.

Well around here the cops seem that way. They are only out to get you. If cops really wanted to help the world, why don't they go arrest ******** for doing real crimes like beating kids or dealing drugs..or something. Other then picking on people because they don't wear a seat belt or ride 10MPH over the speed limit to keep up with traffic.

Around here thats the way most of them are, I just get tired of them. I mean I usually don't have a problem with them because i keep to my self and all i really do is speed but not often. My friend on the other hand..does teh speed limit and is not doing anything wrong and he gets pulled.

You want to know why? Cause the cop apparently had nothing better to do with his spare time and figured he would harrass us some. I don't know, but you say they don't have a quota to meet, but can you explain why every month within the last week, you can't go down the road 5ft without seeing a cop? And you see about 20 ppl pulled over on a 10minute drive to work?

I don't care what they say, they have one. My friends dad is a friend with a cop and its not a quota they have to meet, like no set number but they have to have something to prove they were doing their job.
