Starting Problem.
So they other day i noticed that my Speedo jumping. It would jump about 10 miles faster then i was going and then drop back to normal. A few min laster it would do it again. Last night i went out and when i got home i turned my car off and went in side a few hours later i came back out and my car would not start. It would turn over but no fire. I noticed that it sounded like my ecu was clicking.I have to go some were so i took my truck and when i got back i tried to start it and it started right up. This morning i went out and started it and i started fine. I took it out for a drive and came back, turned it off and it did the same thing no start and the ECU would click. Few min ago i went out and it started right up. Any one have any ideas. Why my speedo is doing that and why it wont start. I am kinda thinking MY ECU is taking a **** on me???
this may or may help.. my friend has a saturn ion... did the same thing... it wouldn't start, he'd let it sit for 10 or 15 then it would start just fine.... turned out to actually be the ignition switch.. he replaced it and hasn't had a problem since
i guess it's somewhat a common problem on the 05 ions..
anyways that could be a culprit on why it starts and doesn't start
as for the jumping speedometer... maybe a messed up speed sensor?

i just pulled the speedo sensor and there was no damage to the teeth or anything. i notice a little moisture in the connector and it has been raining for like a week strait. so i cleaned that out. i was thinking ignition but its just weird how the ECU is clicking. But that might be something to look in to.
Possibly a loose thermostat housing ground it is a main ground to the ecu... I had this issue once and my speedo would jump and it would turn over but not start and I had a clicking its the main fuel pump relay b/c its not getting sufficient power for it to close the relay from that ground... that solved my problems, and it sounds pretty close to yours!
I just checked my Thermostat ground and it seems to be tight. that sounds like it would make sense do you know if there are any other grounds that are for the ECU??
