Default Strange Brake Light sensor in dash

I have a 99 GSR. Lately i noticed when i start the car the brake light in the dash stays on for a while even after lowering the hand brake.
As i drive it stays on and turns off for a secondswhen i press on the on the brakes and comes back on. It stays on for about 10 minutes max. It mostly happens when the engine is cold, could that be a factor?

Why could this be happening?

second it could be your brake switch.... If you have anti lock brakes it could be a problem with the abs system too...

What is the best way to go about checking if there might be something wrong with the abs system?
