Default power loss at 7000??????????

for the past 2 days my car has been loosing power right at 7000 rpm's...but not all the time...and only through 1st gear...it almost feels like a fuel cut off right at 7000 for like half a second...then it snaps back into power and takes off...i THOUGHT it was just cause i was low on gas...but i filled up, drove around, and then punched it and still it did it once...it doesn't do it all the time, so i doubt its mechanical...but i don't have a thingy to check if i'm throwing a code or not...i haven't done anything horrible to the car like miss-shift from 5th to 2nd instead of 4th...so i have NO idea what it is or what could have caused it...just wondering if any of you long time R owners have any idea WTF that is? any help is GREATLY appriciated

thanks

no...its not cause of not letting it get to operating temp before gunning it...i've done that like a complete and utter moron and i swore i would never do it again...i went out driving with my friends again and this is what i found...its not 1st so much as it is the rest of the gears...2nd especially...through 1st, vtec doesn't kick in until 7000 sometimes...others it kicks in normally at 6000 then shuts off at 7000 then kicks in again, but then redlines at 8000...in 2nd it just looses practically all power at 6500 for like half a second...then kicks in again...it does it through the rest of the gears, but not as hard...it doesn't cut as much power it feels like...i just took off the valve cover and checed the valve retainers...they look fine...i have NO idea what's wrong...i need an oil change, and the only thing i could think of is that the oil viscosity is bad and its not building pressure for vtec...but i'm not even at 3000 miles yet, so i doubt it...i'm gonna try and reset the computer, and see if its just wierd programing...PLEASE, any help is GREATLY GREATLY appriciated...i don't wanna have to replace my whole damn head...but if i did...THANK GOD FOR WARRANTY!!!!!!

check the plug that clips into the selinoid (sp?) for the V-Tech next to the distributor, and aslo check the amount of oil. good luck and if these are not your prob go to the dealer asap.

ok...well, the valve springs, valve and retainers all look fine...i don't think its the valve train...i tried just resetting the ECU (wishful thinking) and took it for a test drive...its worse now than it was before...vtec isn't engaging until 7500 rpm's and then it cuts off 8000...me and my friend's were discussing it and we think it might be an electrical problem with my vtec solenoid...if its not working properly, then it might not be building enough pressure to engage at 6000...and every time i engage, i use up some of the pressure i do have and so it gets progressively worse and worse, which is why i'm not engaging until 7500 now...i have NO idea if this kinda thing is common or even heard of...SOMEONE HAS TO BE AWAKE AT 2 IN THE MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm gonna be online all tomorrow...if anyone has any idea of what's goin on, IM me

obviously i was lied to by the previous owner...i checked the oil and it was BLACK and LOW...i got a friend to drive me to a 24 hour auto zone...got a case of 10w-30 mobil 1 synthetic oil and a mobil 1 oil filter...came back and changed the oil...let it idle...took it back out, let it warm and then punched it...ran like a dream...no power loss, no lag, no nothing...just perfect...no more waiting 3000 miles for an oil change for me...ever 1500-2000 miles from now on...YEAH!!! THANKS GUYS!!! I'M SO HAPPY!!!

It never hurts to check your oil more often (like at every fuel fill up).

You bought the car and drove it without checking oil ?

Please do this very often. The R eats up oil very quick while rough driving..

i bought the car used wiht 15000 miles exactly on it...it was at 17500 last night when i changed it...i don't beat on it, but i have taken it to the track twice...neither times i took it, did it fall out of vtec or engage late, so it wasn't that low then, but i probably could have used some

you can think what you want about me not deserving the R...i feel stupid for not thinking that it was the oil...me and my friends were brainstorming and we were talking about the viscosity, but it didn't cross our minds that the oil could just be low...anyways, i may not know everything about my car, but i know a lot and i take damn fine care of it...i just happen to hit bumps along the way

so because i overlooked the problem after previously owning an LS and only owning the R for a month, i am deemed unworthy of owning a Type R??

i spent 4 months looking for one i could afford, and i work 40+ hours a week to pay for it...i'd say that deems me worthy right there

up until a month ago i never had any hands on experience with vtec...i dunno what it means when it disengages, so i ask you guys for help so i don't permanently **** something up, and so i know what not to do next time...i'm here to get info and help from people with a whole lot more experience with these than me...so because i had to ask, i don't deserve my car?

whatever...i don't care...you can think whatever you want about me and my car...personally i think someone like you who critisizes people for asking questions deserves there car even less than someone who's just trying to learn...so you can kiss my hairy asian ***

i did check the oil before i checked the board again...it just didn't hit me right away, and when i came back on here after changing my oil to see if anyone had posted any more suggestions, 3 other people had said look at the oil...which made me feel pretty damn confident that i had found the problem...i just pulled a stupid on this one and i'm gettin chew out like bubble gum for it

ok...i went a little overboard with the "kiss my ***", but that whole "don't deserve your car" line really irritated me...i spent over $3000 on my LS and my dumbass friend crashed it into a wall...i spent months looking for an R and i've been working for months and will continue to work for months to pay the bitch off...i deserve my car, and i don't like people telling me otherwise...but i am sorry for being an ***

When you go to the track, always check oil levels between sessions.

You didn't notice any other cars at the track doing this?

ok...just to clarify things...i'm not denying the fact that i SHOULD have thought about the oil right away, or that i SHOULD have checked it sooner...you guys can chew my *** out for that all you want, cause it was a stupid mistake, and thats not what i was irritated me...the only thing that irritated me was when C5_ALLMOTOR said i didn't deserve my car...but whatever...he can think what he wants about me and my car...i'm done bickering about this...the problem is fixed, and i'll sure as hell be checking my oil more often

If you're talking to me, I never chewed you out.

I just asked a question, which you didn't answer.

You want to make sure you have enough oil when you do track events because you will burn oil very quickly while on the track. That's why I said to check between sessions. Just trying to help for future reference.
