Time to upgrade my car...I want a good setup...Any ideas?
I am ready to upgrade my 1991 Accord's F22A4. I have an aftermarket exhaust that's running a 2.5" pipe from the header back to the muffler with a cat, res, and muffler welded in place for emissions legality. The intake is stock, but I took off the air box and put a K&N E-0774 filter in its place. The muffler has a 2.5" inlet and dual 2" outlets. I am planning to do an ECU chip upgrade or manual ECU tune to disable the speed governor and increase the redline to 8,000rpms as well as tune the ECU for more power throughout the power band. The ECU chips I saw said "Expect 7 to 20 horsepower gains just from tuning the ECU with this chip". I would prefer a manual tune, because I want to tune the ECU to provide a Stoichiometric mix at all rpms under part-throttle acceleration, though I don't know how much power gain I'd get by doing that. I am looking at either an n/a all-motor setup or a 50-shot nitrous setup, though I do not know which one would be better. I don't know what else I can do, so if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.
one thing you can do without having to chip an ecu is get the p12 out of the 92-95 f22 prelude. It has better mappings then the stock pt3 and will give you some horsepower gains for little money. Another thing is find an h23 intake manifold. Also find some ex cams from the 92-93 f22a6 accords. They are slightly more aggresive then the f22a1/4.
I heard I could get better gains from a socketed and chipped PO6 ECU, and I also heard the PO6 is easier to play with. I can get a SPOON chip for the P06 that is mapped for 91 octane or higher gas with a 7,000rpm redline and the speed governor disabled, but I do not know how much of a gain I would get from that.

well thats true but remember you can get gains from any motor from a chipped ecu and a tune. But its up to you i was just throwing some suggestions out there. Depending on how much or how little hp gains you get the f22a's don't make much power after 6200. So the 7,000 rev limit would not do you any good. And actually i am getting ready to chip a p06 and convert it to manual if you are interested. I was going to chip it and add vtec to it. Let me know if your interested.
My car has an automatic tranny, but if you can chip a P06 for me and tune it for 91 octane gas or higher and a 7krpm rev limit, I'd appreciate it. Also, if you can completely disable the speed governor, that would help, too. I don't need the manual conversion or the VTEC added to it, so don't worry about that. Here is my intent: All-motor n/a performance with possible entry into road rally or autocross circuits with a mix of acceleration power and top speed. I have an aftermarket 2.5" exhaust and a K&N E-0774 filter in place of the airbox (a ghetto-rig short-ram), and I use E10 ethanol-blended gas, so I need mappings for those specifically. The more power gain I can get, the better. Thanks. Also, would I be able to run nitromethane gas with that setup, and if so, how much gain would I get from it?
well i don't know how to add in all the nitromethane and the ethanol. Im not really much into the whole "tuning" thing but i can talk to my buddy who just started "tuning". Anyhow with that said i was orginally just trying to hook you up with just a p06 that has already been socketed. Sorry if i through you off a little.
*edit* i don't have permission for instant messege yet

A P06 that is socketed is fine. I can get the thing chipped and tuned myself. As long as its for an automatic transmission and a non-VTEC engine, I can use it.

alright thats exactly what its set up for right now. All i am waiting to do now is put in the dip socket, to complete it. I ordered it a couple days ago so it should be here sometime soon. Hit me up e-mial style

I found a good set of SPOON and M-GEN Racing P06 chips set for 7k and higher rev limit. There are even a few mapped as high as 9,000rpm rev limit. I just want to know how many rpms the stock internals on the F22A4 can handle at maximum so I know which rev limit to go for. The ones mapped for 8krpms+ require a minimum of 91 octane gas, with 93 octane recommended, and have the knock sensor and speed governor disabled. I dunno how much gain I'd get with those chips, though.
Edit: Those chips were programmed specifically to provide as much power as possible between idle and the 8krpm+ redline, so putting one on the F22A4 would allow the F22A4 to get power that high, but I do not know how much power I'd gain from those chips.

The stock internals can handle maybe 7k at the most but thats pushing it with hardly any mods done to it. The knock sensor you don't have to worry about anyways, the f22a's don't have them. This is my last post for the day since im a noob and this is my 5th post for the day. Send me an e-mail (mentioned above) with your reply. later
be careful with what you are doing, just cuz your chip lets you rev to 8k, your valvetrain wont like that too much, floating valves can be a very ugly thing, not to mention other stresses on the motor at that kind of a rpm
I found a good SKUNK2 H22A Intake Manifold and I have a choice of a 68mm or 70mm SKUNK2 H22A throttle body. The only thing I found in the way of camshaft upgrades for the F22A4 are adjustable cam gears. Would an F22A6 camshaft and the right cam timing get me a redline of 8,200rpms or higher? Also, how much power would I gain from that setup with a tuned and chipped P0B ECU?
