Any experience with Tuning capabilites of a Vafc2
Ok. my dilema is that i own a 01 py itr, and.....
i will be doing skunk2 cams, jg edlebrock springs and retainers, aem cam gears, aebs manifold, 70mm tb, top fuel intake, aem fuel rail, b&m fuel pressure reg and gauge. i will also be runing a replica hytech big tube header.
i have full buddy club spec II exhaust. also if it matters, i have a fluidyne radiator, and yellow fal slim fans.
now my question is, can i safely tune my setup on a vafc2 and still pull a descent amount of power out. also, would they be able to keep constant fuel through rpms and keep it from leaning out or running to rich. i would love to purchase hondata, but funds are low right now and i bought a vafc2 for dirty cheap so i figured i may use it.
any comments or questions would be great. thanks

just remember to ask yourself....whats more expensive.......hondata or a new motor
a set up like that would benefit pretty good from a programable ecu.

i would look into crome and freelog. Both are free and 1 million times better then any type of afc. they are just as good as hondata if you ask me. there are ppl making well over 600hp with it. The chip burner is not that bad either here is a chip burner http://www.moates.net/product_...id=48
here is datalog http://www.moates.net/product_...id=78
just a little over 100 dollars for both and it will tune about any setup
oh yeah here is the chip kit http://www.moates.net/product_...id=42
and get a OBD2 TO OBD1 CONVERSION JUMPER HARDNESS off ebay for less than 50$
go to http://forum.pgmfi.org/ and all the other good tuning websites and read till you cant read no more then keep reading.
I will tell you this i started building engine about 10 years ago the first 3 i built blew up not because i sucked at building.they got blown up due to detonation which came from bad timing. you can put as much fuel as you want but have your timing off and bye bye new engine.you cant adjust timing with a afc. when you get to tuning you will understand why a afc sucks

Yes you can use a VAFC2 to clean up the mess of an A/F youll have but as others have said its probably best to get a chip'd ecu and run a tuned map from a qualified tuner for optimum results
I used an FPR and original VAFC back in 02 when I had my 00 C5 and made some gains with tuning (fuel/cam gears/vtec engagement) but I know I could have made even more with timing changes which help alot in the higher revs
Seeing as how most of us buy another Honda after the one we are building you may want to consider ecTune or a Hondata S300 system...tune it and then buy a p28 to chip with your new map...use the real time S300 for other Hondas you own or help friends tune
I have a mystery chip'd Del Sol that I am gonna try to tune and still debating the various ways to real time tune....very helpful when your burning up dyno time lol
EDIT: Also if I remember right I think I was close to running out of injector so you may want to consider running larger injectors (prelude is what alot of guys use) I say 310's or so would work well.....I ended up bumping the pressure up and leaning out the mess with the VAFC...

but technically couldnt you adjust your timing with adjustable cam gears and get a little timing out of it?
when you look at a ecu map you can see why it is not a good idea to use a afc.you fake your ecu to run more fuel buy making it think that you are in mbar colume on your map. which the fuel part is ok.it is the timing part that is bad. you have no idea what timing you are running.you may have to much timing or not enough. I just think it is a bad idea to spend 2k for 10hp from untuned ecu. when you can spend 300$ more and get 20hp or more. Go to http://forum.pgmfi.org and start reading. best thing you will do. look into crome. You dont have to spend a ton of cash.
