Default p28 on crome with boost base map/vafc

I got my civic together ready for the dyno. Sadly i cant make it there for about a month. So i got a base map for my p28 from phearable.net an hooked it up.

I also got a vafc hooked up to my car still. Is this bad to do? I added more fuel with it when the turbo starts to build boost so it wont lean out IF the map is to lean. An turned v-tec off with my vafc so timing wont sky rocket.

b16a2 stock

garret t3-t4 on 7psi

greaddy e-01

550 injectors

walburo fuel pump

what do you guys think? i can unhook it easly.

bump! bad idea to use a VAFC to richen up a base map for boost?

i also hear that the vafc dose not see boost, an it can advance your timing on the chipped p28 boost base map.

bump for some info!

In this case, you can temporarily use the VAFC to make the basemap less dangerous. Ideally you won't boost at all until you dyno tune it.

In the mean time, you can use the old checking the plugs method. Basicly you do a WOT pull to the designated RPM/PSI, then turn the ignition off, pull a plug (#3 is ideal), and 'read' it to see if it's too rich or lean. Google it to see examples/pictures of how its done. Its an old art, but that doesn't make it any less effective - especially if you have no wideband.

exactly, basemap is just to get you to the dyno and off boost at that.

thanks for the reply!

It would be a bad thing to touch boost you think? Cause i figure if i Check my plugs after each pull to 5k or so an richen it up over an over...ect.... that i will get some what if a tune.

Im totaly new to tuning. Im a book worm tho! An im trying to learn. None the less I am going to the dyno in about a month. So it will be right, i have no point to touch 6k. Im just trying to keep it Rich, rather then lean.....

So, i got a p28 with a boost base map, bad idea to richen it up according to what the plugs tell me to do? Isnt that the same thing??

thanks alot for replys guys! any more info would be great!

op it sounds like you really want to do this, nothing wrong with getting hands on and taking chances as its a great learning process, but you have to be prepared for the possibility of catastrophic engine failure, if you are ok with that tune away
