fabric on door panel
ok, i know there is already a diy write up on how to do this in this section, but it has no pics and it doesn't really describe mine. can i get som ideas here please.
i am trying to change the fabric on my door panels. i just finished painting them black as seen below.

but then i painted the carpet type fabric, and i don't like it

so now i want to replace it with a grey vinyl fabric

but now i've got a problem, the plastic back that needs to come out

but these little pieces are melted on the end to hold it together. so after i break these to get it out, does anyone know what to do to get it to hold back in properly?

do you know how to weld plastic with a soldering iron? the easierst way i see on how to do it, is to cut away the plastic holding it on enough to get it off, then weld the plasic left over back to the backing, maybe get some more plastic to melt and weld over that area
its not really as hard as it sounds, just as long as if you dont try to rush it, and slowly melt the plastic and move it where you want it, instead of trying to melt it all at once, then you will be less likely to end up with a pile of melted plastic all over. for practice try cutting a pop bottle in half and welding it back togeather, if you can do that and have it hold then you can handle any job.
i just dont see the hot glue holding those small of tabs strong enough. after a few times slamming your door i can see the glue falling off.plus different heat and cool cycles, and everything will make it even less likely to bond.

true, i was actually thinking about getting some small screws, putting a washer on it, and screwing it into the little holes to hold it. that'd work good i know, just worried bout the screw going all the way through or something.
1. Cut the plastic circular pieces holding the panel and save the pieces.
(Install new fabric.)
2. When installing the panel, melt the pieces you cut off with a heatgun, onto the holes. It will harden fairly quickly, now the screws have something to bite.
3. Use washers and screws to screw back in. (This part is a little tricky, the screws will not tighten well so get them in as far as you can and leave it. It will hold, trust me. Once you install the door panel you won't have any problems.
Just did mine last weekend. I bought my diy kit here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2240488.

^I would do much of the same...
Except I would just blob some epoxy into the holes, along with using tapping screws, instead of remelting the plastic (i dont own a heat gun)
I also bought black tweed from J&O online....$10/yd. 2 yards for way less than that kit.
(sorry dude..)

thanks for the advice on how to do it. Not buying a kit. went to the fabric store, and bought some grey vinyl fabric. i don't like tweed, well, i don't hate it, just don't want it this time. and then i'm gonna do the rest myself, so to replace the fabric on all 4 doors, a grand total of $16.56 isn't bad at all.
good idea bout the epoxy cause i don't own a heat gun either. I'm gonna do it this weekend. thanks guys.
