Default Timing Belt Broke

Well my 1990 crx si is in the shop and yep the timing belt broke. The mechanic also said that i bent some valves. My mechanic also said that the waterpump needs to be replaced. Now my question is, for $800 is this a good price to fix it. It seems quite over priced? what do you guys think. or should i just do a b16a1 swap which will cost like $1800 total.

thanks for your help in advance jason

Personally I think $800 is waaaayyyy to much money to sink in to a D16A6 that is only going to be as good as stock when you're done. You can get a used motor for way less than that and drop it in. You can get a ZC for $500 or so and drop it in and still be under $800. I'd be surprised if you could have a complete B16 swap done and running for only $1800 though. I'm not saying its impossible, but as many here will tell you, there are always lots of unforseen costs.

anyway, skip sinking $800 in to a stock A6 motor and go swap, or go used. A Z6 is another great option that should be able to be put in the car for well under $800.

I agree. You could even pick up another A6 for $200

Yeah I blew the belt on my A6 in januray. Just pulled the head tonight. Turns out everything is fine! Oh well, it was a good excuse to do a swap... SOHC VTEC all the way!! Too bad Honda engines aren't like Mazda MX-6 V6's... non interference engine!

Ditto... I broke my girlfriend's T belt at about 80mph in 5th gear on the highway. No valves were bent at all. This was also an A6 motor. I have heard of people bending valves on the A6 though. I suppose it depends on various factors.

what kind of problems did you run into while doing the swap? i might not do the swap after all since the car is like 12 yrs old and the body isn't that of good shape either. i probably would just get rid of it. thanks for all the help guys
