Installing exhaust, rusted bad, what do I do? lol

Well these are the bolts still on my cat, and I need to get rid of them. Broke one already, but they wouldn't come off because the top of the bolt doesn't fit a box wrench. You can put a open box or adjustable wrench on it, but since they all rusted out, I'm just gonna warp the the top if I keep trying. I want to know if these supposed to come out or screwed out. I tried to hammer on it a bit and they wouldn't move. Already used freeze it and lubricant spray and stuff and they still on there. I tried to take the cat off, and had to go through with the other rusted bolts.... and the sensor wouldn't come off either because of rust. Any advice? lol Don't want to spent all weekend trying to get this out.

They make special sockets that go over studs to remove them, I would go to the nearest auto parts store and see if you could borrow a set. If that fails, try the two nut method for removing the stud. Don't hammer on them any more.. I see the one you have broken and your best bet is the socket set that is used for extracting studs. Good luck!
What's the 2 nut methods? When you say 2 nuts method I think of 2 nuts on a bolt to keep it locked in place. What's this special tool called? How does it work? Yeah I broke one bolt while trying to get the nut off, but since it's so old and rusted it wouldn't give unless broken in half lol
I have no idea if they are welded on. It's hard to describe.. get a nut, screw it all the way down the stud... put the other nut on and screw it all the way down too.. they should be right up against one another..tighten the top one and put a wrench on the bottom nut, now back it off... it puts pressure against the top nut and lets you kinda wrench out the stud.. i hope I explained it in a way you can understand.
are those wielded on? that would suck... My exhaust came with 3 bolts and nuts for replacing these though. And I looked at the diagram of the exhaust system, it looks like it's a bolt went through the flange and tighten down with nuts. If you say it's wielded on, I'm not sure anymore. Can anyone comfirm this?
I see, same thing as locking the first nut.

Those bolts are not welded on and can be removed, I removed mine, take a hammer and keep hitting it really hard, best to take the cat off and level on the ground and just bang it I will guarantee they will come off.

That's just stupid, the ceramic core inside is very very fragile to repeating bangs, those stud are pressed in and using a press is the only way to remove them properly.
go to a machine shop and they can press it out for you about 30-50 buck for all the studs.

they arent screwed in...the bolts have splines so they dont spin when u take the nuts off. mine were rusted to hell too. i dropped the whole exhuast out from under the car and got a propane torch and heated them up then just hit them with a hammer. worked like a charm.
iam7head's comment seems logical, but I'm not paying extra to do it right...
If you all hammered it out, I guess I shall hammer it out too. If the cat breaks, then it's a good reason to get a test pipe... lol

meh, hammered 2 of them out, but the broken one will not come out even with pb, freeze it, and lub. Tried to drill it, and battery is out before I could even drill the smallest bit through... this is sad. I'm turning this easy installation to a weekend long project. lol

no it's not stupid everyone below did it, the ceramic core must not me that fragile as everyone has done it including myself without problems, why pay 30-50 bucks when it's free? As for doing this with a broken stud use a thick bolt or drill bit and use that as a tap to get it out, it will come out just keep going at it good luck.

use a puller/gear puller. they have 2 parts that will hold on the cat while u screw in the center bolt will push them out. or u can hammer but if u use a puller it push them out ez. i mean i just hammered it out but a puller will not cause u to brake the "fragile ceramic core" im not sure if thats true cuz i always thought cats were just multiple metal screens but i dont know, good luck. puller for the win!
and yes they are not screw on bolts, they have splines like a driveshaft or ur crank on the clutch end. brake all the time happened on mine. new ones cost 17.50 from the dealer each, go to marshalls industrial hardware and just get strength 10 bolts that fit inside with nuts. cheaper

everyone did it and it's okay? how many of those people actually taken ASE courses? i did. you can get aways with running your car with 87 octane gas but is it good for your car? 30-50 buck is cheap if you manage to damage the cat by whacking it with a hammner, hell you can sell the cat to scrape yard and buy a test pipe with more money left over.
it seems like you can't offer any more real answer in honda-tech without some moron running their mouth.

the one you have is ceramic honeycone core, you can see thru it by looking at the sun with it.

in 3 posts your just proved how stupid and ignorant you are... yes whacking the bolts with a hammer will eventually work, but as iam7head said, there could be consequences... a lot of ideas would have worked in this case... ie: slamming on the ground, hitting it with a rock, or any other Neanderthal methods, but the correct way is to have it pressed out... also, since you recommended hitting it with a hammer, what happens if the OP cracked the core??? would you have replaced it for him since you gave him bad advice???
you are the idiot so shut ur [freak]in mouth you dumb noob and get the [freak] out... you and your 16 posts arent welcomed...

Here we go again s2killa, I'm not going to waste my time with you, all i did was suggest that you can tap it out with a hammer LIKE OTHERS HAVE if you can [freak]ing read [pejorative], I didn't say his way was wrong, if I had the money and time to drive with my exhaust open I would but I don't so I resorted to a hammer which WORKED FINE like others. yes his way would be nice but not everyone can have the luxury of having a spare car availaible nor the time to find a shop to press it out when they have a hammer in hand. I'm just gonna stay here whether you like it not so stfu, end of discussion, reply and your desperate homo
