for my builds i usually only do piston skirts and domes...bearings are a nice option as well but not mandatory...skirt coatings really help buffer the pistons as they move along the sleeve

from what ive experienced, a lot of the coated bearings screw with clearances.

there usually coated after the clearances are established...but yeah they somewhat tighten things up but as the crank turns and the engine is turned off so many times they buffer into the main journals...so it really isn't a big deal later on...

swaintech coats their bearings to about .0002" a shell(.0004" included) or somewhere around there as I remember from their site...

I am pleased to learn today that the RS 84.5mm slugs already have a Molyb heat and friction coating on the skirts

I'm not sure If any other coatinngs will yeild the performace gain or characterics I am seeking

You need to actually know what youre talking about first.

I am hoping to alleviate any confusion I might have; first by asking specific questions in this forum.

Maybe I should have used some of the industry specific terms like the RS piston skirts have a TBC to reduce friction and reduce heat soak.

I feel if I waste my time confusing myself with the finite science of engine coatings ; this could hinder my potential knowlege in other vital areas.

i thought piston skirts only got the DFL, moly coatings. too much general knowledge is never a bad thing
