I want to know if anyone here has put either a 92-95 Civic VX motor or a CRX HF motor into an CRX Si.
The reason I ask this is because I was planning on rebuilding the Si but since I never race, I never dog my motors and I love to cruise I thought it'd be a great opportunity to have the a great gas saving motor installed.
Now i know some of you may argue that the Si D16a6 is already pretty good on gas but with the current trends in oil prices I'd like to do all I can to save money on the road.
I was looking at the general specs for the 92-95 Civics and from what I could see there really isn't that great a difference in weight between the 91 CRX Si and the 92 VX.
1992 Honda Civic Hatchback US Model Info
VX
Wheelbase 101.3"
Overall Length 160.2"
Vehicle Height 53.0"
Vehicle Width 66.9"
Curb Weight 2,094 lbs. (CRX Si is 2174lbs)
Engine 1.5L 4 Cyl
Stroke 3.33"
Bore 2.95"
Horsepower 92 @ 5500
Torque 97 @ 4500
Fuel Capacity 11.9 gal.
What is the newest year D-series engine that you guys would recommend as a gas saver? Would you recommend staying with the Si tranny or going with the HF or DX tranny?
Any info is greatly appreciated.

HF or DX tranny for sure. I changed to an Si trans in my 97 Lx and gas mileage suffered (around 5 in town and 2-3 hwy).
Check out gassavers.org for some good info. Lots of Honda guys on there.

Yeah, I been doing some web snooping and I had no idea that they made a VTEC-E motor that has all sorts of cool little perks(oil cooler? rocker cams?)
I am going to give Hmotorsonline a call on Tuesday to see if I can get a good deal on one of these babies.
Thanks for the site referral too. That place is indeed interesting!

Your CRX already has less frontal area than the EG, so thats good.
If it were my choice, I'd try to make a hybrid DX/HF trans.
And get a real-time mpg gauge, its the best thing for mpg!
One of the most inspiring articles I've read about a hypermiler:

Just an update...
Well, I WAS going to do this swap on my CRX but seeing that my Si hatch just popped the timing belt(yeah yeah , I know...my dumb fault for not changing it earlier) so it looks like I may have to drop this motor into the hatch.
Now I have searched over at Gassavers.org to see if anyone has done an 88-91 converstion to the VTEC-E motor but I only found one conversion for an 85!
I need to know what I need to make this swap as easy as possible and where is the cheapest I can find one. Hmotors quoted me $625 shipped for the longblock..no ecu. Steve also told me that the car would have to be converted to OBD1.
I've also done searches here on ht for this particular swap with no luck getting any info. I am wondering if the plumbing for the vacuum hoses are going to be easier as well.
I already have replacement mounts and a few other goods...so if anyone can give me some sound advice on how to start this the right way I would appreciate it.
Thanks HT.

I am gonna keep fishing for help til someone bites.
I've continued to do more and more research and it's come down to 2 engines.
D15Z1(OBD1 SOHC VTEC E Motor)
D15B(OBD2 SOHC 3 Stage VTEC)
Has anyone here done a swap with the D15B 3stage VTEC? The reason I ask is because I went to Rywire and saw that they had OBD0 to OBD1 harnesses but I didn't find anything that would help me go from OBD0 to OBD2.
If anyone here has done this swap, please hit me up. I have a ton of questions to ask. I have already asked over as Gassavers.org and the only help I found was for the Z1 swap. Nothing for the D15B 3stage Vtec swap.

best thing so far iv found i get 420km to a tank of 35L of gas its realy good im useing a d16y7 y8 mini me with a obd1 manifold and race headers and stock tail pipe also ram intake its runing all obd1 with a z6 map runs good i can even get same milage if a beat on the motor as well lol its amazing
I'd personally go for a stock CRX HF engine and tranny.
I think that if you are trying to increase your MPG for not too much money as well as minimize the difficulty then that combo would be your best bet.
