I have a few civic and general questions.
I just have a few questions about early 90s civics and just general questions.
1.(This is a question for cars in general as I've seem many different cars like this)Why is it that some people disconnect the wires on the rear window defroster?
2.On my car, when I turned the side view mirrors inward the clip that holds the spring down came up and now the metal that was holding the chip down is broken(so now the mirror moves freely inward and outward). Is this something that normally happens to older civics and if so why?
3.Is the flywheel cover important?
4.Has anyone ever heard of removing the air conditioner radiator(don't know what its really called)and installing a big radiator to keep the engine cooler?
5.One of my windows goes slightly to the side when I'm closing it which causes a piece of the rubber molding to get stuck between the window and the door. How do I make the window go straight up?

1. dunno, never heard of someone doing that on purpose
2. i've seen the mirrors flop like that plenty on 92-95 civics, dunno about other generations.
3. i'd keep it on
4. its called a condenser, yes people remove it to fit a larger performance radiator
5. happened to me on my EK, the rail holding ur window is probably loose, you'll have to pop off the door panel, check the rails if they wiggle, realign if necessary, then tighten the bolt down again. i recommend you use loctite of something to make sure it stays. mine loosens after a while from normal driving. oh, and also use a lubricant for the windows

well i couldnt tell you why some people take off thier rear window defroster maybe because they have no clue of what it does. and the fan you are speaking of is the ac condenser fan which you will need if you plan on running ur car with ac.

1.) The defro is not disconnected as an on-purpose mod. It may just be broke *** or the hatch may have been replaced hastily.
2.) No. Go to a junkyard and buy a mirror.
3.) Yes. It keeps the crap out of your clutch housing. Running through a cold puddle with a really hot clutch will cause warpage of the flywheel. Getting junk in there is bad considering you DO NOT want rust to form on the splines or in between parts. They move. To move smoothly, they must not be rusted. There are also bearings in there. Put the clutch cover back on.
4.) Yes. People do this but are generally misguided. Unless you have a turbo and top mount manifold in there that requires removal of the condenser....there's really no reason. NA civics/integras dont run hot. The engines that fit easily and commonly into civics are usually open deck, aluminum block engines. They often have large oil capacities for the engine size and excellent cooling. Integra guys and 88-91 civic guys (including me back when I had those cars) complain that the stock radiator is over sized. The civic's half sized radiator is fine for NA purposes unless the engine is REALLY REALLY REALLY modded. Like race car modded. Having a I/H/E setup does not qualify as a race car, BTW. AC is better than no AC. Keep your AC. Get on a treadmill to make up for the weight gain on your car.
5.) take apart the door jamb and take the window out. Fix the moulding or buy a new one. Buying a new one is the correct solution. Buy a tube of shin ehtsu grease from honda or buy some silicone spray. The silicone spray is cheaper and less messy. Lube the window tracks. Unlubed window tracks cause SO many issues that people dont realize. The same people that go "hmmm...my windows seem to work when it rains...but not when it's dry".
