my favorite quote from that article...

"Tony: When we were all doing it, we were doing it with every paycheck and with money we'd make at the street races. We'd put it on the cars and the cars would get faster. Then I got a sponsor and they'd tell me, "We'll give you anything." But once I wrecked it, they went away just like that. When NHRA got involved, it ruined everything. They picked and chose who came in, who could race and who would get sponsorships."

Im glad we have the Print Media back on our side.. ..come to think of it the story of why the sudden decline of Print Media Coverage happend to coincide w/ a certain "National Series" would make good reading as well..

very true. I couldnt think of a better way of saying it.

import drag racing as a whole was specifically damaged by the business ethics practiced by this company, I'm ashamed to say will no longer support there cause. the damage has already been done and the dirty laundry is out.......

edit: would you support a cause that hindered your well being or passion?

Now that I look at it. Bragging rights was what fueled you to do more and more each week so when you come out that weekend, your on top. The difference with back then, records were still attainable without breaking your bank. Now adays, it takes more money and technology to get to the top. And for most, its not feasible to even just to get something started.

Alot has changed, but I hope things will change for the better in the long run.

I understand what your saying, it's expensive to build a car to run for the record. But it's as much about build as it is about race.

Even if the car won't be the fastest car in the class it will still be out there. We taking a friends car to LVD this Saturday and Atco next weekend so he can race.

It's all about the journey of life. Being out there sure beats sitting home behind the PC.

And until we have cars running in the 5's or faster I don't think we'll ever be able to fill stands on the other side of the track.

Face it people like to see fast cars.

We need to come up with a way to let people know how amazing these cars running 6's and 7's are.

WOW thats crazy...i was reading about Tony Fuchs last night...one of the Sport Compact car magazines...its an old magazie atleast 2 years old and it had him in it talking about the 20 years of Acura....he talks about how he was one of 4 imports at that event...and how he was booed..and that John force walked up to him and laughed and said " you got the slicks on the wrong side " or something like that...then after he ran the 10.61 people realised how badass it was....

i am only 20 and i am at the track everyweekend...beating the s*it out of my car.. BOTI is coming to Woodburn Dragstrip this year sept 27-28...first time i will ever compete in one...there is a possibilty that i will compete in the Seattle one in june also...i dont know how the scene used to but from what it sounds like it was badass!!!! I can only hope that it takes off...from what i have seen in the past 2 years racing at PIR (Portland international raceway) it is picking up this year..more and more imports and racers are there every weekend...

i agree with "1992si" untill we have 5 sec cars not as many people are going to go...people dont understand...

I honestly dont know how true this statment is:

Tony: Nobody builds anything cool. They come into my shop and all they want is to lower the car, put rims and tires on it. That's it.

But we ourselves get people everyday wanting to do something different and interesting. I would say there's alot more people these days goin back into performance aspects and a little more away from the car show scene. Although it does take both to make the industry what it can and will always be. Not just one or the other.

Man, I remember going to my first BOTI event and waiting in the mile long line just to get into the gates at LACR. Adam Saruwatari drove up in his Montego Blue RX-7 and ran 14.2's. Dave Shih put his CRX on the portable dyno and laid down something like 367whp, which was jaw-dropping back then. My brother had a friend named Devin who volunteered for AIRA to help organize the event and he got us in for free. A couple years ago I learned that Devin had started a company called Blox. Damn that brings back some memories...

Myles: If Junior saved all his Mugen stuff and he had a lot of it, he'd probably buy another house with it. Let's just put it this way: If you never had carburetors in your Honda, you are not old school. You are not OG enough."" </TD></TR></TABLE>

I have bin(s) in my garage with all my old SS, turbo, SCC and some TMRs (a couple of the small ones)...And when you look at the cars back then, they have mugen rnrs with slicks on them! , Cpr-s on race cars- etc..No rotas back then..

I was building a 5 sec car for NOPI X-funny car, but I ran out of money, and sold it off. That was back in 2004. My plan was to actually build a pair of cars and run them match-race style at all the NOPI events to get more interest, but it never materialized, and the sponsors were all jumping over to drifting.
You need a lot of money to get started before anyone will give more money to keep them running.

I still want to finish building the engine, just to say I did it, and see how much power it makes.

i remember my first time trying to get to LACR in 93 (i think) and wondering where the [freak] is the track....i'm in the middle of a [freak]ing desert!...lost....hahaha...then after getting there wondering why the PA announcer guy was always screaming the team names like CYBER....and making lame as jokes during the races.
good times...
i still remember watching a fwd import hit a 12 sec et....jaw dropping back then...i was hooked!
