EK Starting Problem (please help this is annoying)
alright i've had this 97 ek with an ls/vtec for about 4 months now. ever since i bought the damn thing it dies while idling....unless give constant 1500rpms right after start up for about 2 minutes.
once i let off the gas it drops to about 200rpm and no im not exaggerating it feels like its gonna die and very rough while its in neutral. once i start driving and stop at lights and stuff like that it idles about 500rpm or so which is fine, not normal, but fine.
the problem lies with my throttle cable(so ive been told), its from a Teg LS(ive been told the cable is too long for the EK b18 set up). on the intake mani(p72) there is no bracket to hold the cable so it was mickey moused and zip tied somewhere near the battery to "allign" it with the throttle cable pulley. it is some what straight but every time i hit a bump while im accelerating(in first and second gear only) the car starts to jump(like someone learning to drive stick that gives it too much gas).
my interpretation of that is the cable is moving out of allignment while the pulley is having tension applied to it, causing erratic acceleration. why this doesnt happen in third fourth or fifth is unknown.
im not sure if these two problems are related but please let me know whats goin on. i am very knowledgable about my ek and my ef so dont dumb things down ill know whats up.
also it could be my IACV for the idling problem but never took it apart to look.
Thanks,
Steve

couple different reasons actually... i have an EF that i spend most of my time with...im gone at work from 530am-530pm...i got a 3 year old and the EK is my gf's car that i bought for her....she isnt home too often and i dont get as much time as i like to look under the hood.
but the BIGGEST REASON is that i hear conflicting solutions....i heard get the type r cable(?), gsr cable, ek d16 cable, 94 del sol vtec cable(wtf) so its throwing me off. techs at dealerships tell me conflicting **** also i havent gotten a straight answer.

here are two different pix of the intake manifold on this first one....on the bottom right you will see the nipple im taking about...air is being sucked in thru there and if i block it with my finger, it dies...

this second picture shows the same mani but with fuel line/rail...there is a BLACK PLASTIC PIECE WITH A HOSE RUNNING BACK TO THE NIPPLE I MENTIONED BEFORE...what is that? my mani does not have it for whatever reason.

Who ever said it was the throttle cable is a moron.
You can disconnect the cable if you want it has ZERO effect on ideling unless its too tight causing it to rev up not down.
There are 2 things you need to do.
1, Put the ecu in Diag mode and set the base idle to 750 +- 50 (you can do this with iacv disconnected if you dont mind reseting the ecu after)
2, If the car at 1 point had a 3 wire iac make sure the 2 wire conversion was done right, and if that isnt the issue try a known good iacv.

hmm ok found out that the sensor i was talking about on the mani is actually the evap purge solenoid that runs to the mani then to the charcoal canister....bunch of hooplah if you ask me damn emissions haha but i guess that will cause a mean vac leak...also i need the bracket for the cable to hold it in position to keep it from jumping erratically.
the purge solenoid will stop the vaccum leak from the back of the mani since it has vaccum lines that run thru it. everything should be taken care of with these couple parts.
