Do I need a Valve Job? (Ep3)
Ok, So last week I started up my car, and the Yellow light blinks ten times.. Maint needed . And it has been ever since then everytime i start my car. Im at 85,000 miles im my ep and have loved every bit of it. But since then My valves have been getting REALLY loud upon acceleration past 4k. Its kind of that click/clack sound of the valves when idling, but way loud. I can hear it over my exhaust. I know most hondas have this sound but ive never heard mine this loud. I know, Im a total noob about cars/engines So I thought some of you may know more before I get the ***** to go to honda..
The maintenance required light is a scam. That's honda's way of making people take their car to Honda for their unnecessary 30k, 60k, etc expensive maintenance "packages". The clicking you are hearing is because you need a valve lash adjustment. Go on ephatch.com and find someone local that can do valve lash for you and pull out your owners manual to reset the Maintenance light. Dont take it to Honda.....chances are they will rip you off.
My a2 needed it at 90,000 but they weren't as loud as you make your's sound. I'd do this asap: http://www.vtec.net/articles/v...43824
It could be about that time to get your valves adjusted but don't take it to the stealership. They will charge you way too much. And as far as the light, blueshark123 is right. It comes on at set mileage. Hold down your odometer button with the key in the ignition but not turned. Then turn to position 2 and keep holding for 20 sec. It will go off.
I called a local shop, which I and my friends trust, and they said they would do it for 80 bucks, plus they recommended that I get a valve head or something for around 30? Is this fair? Thanks for all your input guys.. much appreciated :]
I do recommend all hi mile 80+ should at least have some maintenance check by shop or qualified tecnician. dealers if ur under warranty trust me I know. Save ur rides. Dont depend on service lite, its just ur ride reminding U the bitch is tire of Ur driving.

Dont see a point in that so long as you keep up with oil changes/tune ups. Until about 120k Hondas are fine with the exception of the small things such as im having currently.

You're an idiot.
i work for honda as a tech from personel expirence al k-series motors tend tighten up on valve lash, it is usually the b-series that become loose. u could just take to a dealer and have the vlaves adjusted.good luck
