Default Timing belt broke while driving

Hey guys. My neighbor has a dilema. While driving his timing belt broke. Could anything internally be broke as well?

What kind of car? If it's an interference engine (like most Hondas), there is a good chance that there was internal damage. Advise him not to try to start the car until the damage is assessed and repaired. Hopefully he got lucky and no permanent harm was done.

Its a 94 Civic EX (D16Z6). I didnt think that older engines weren't interference engines. Im guessing the whole valvetrain is bent up?

tell him to do a leakdown test so you don't need to rotate the engine by using the starter. It'll tell him if his valves are bent.

Sounds good. I haven't done one of these in years.

Can you visually see if the valves are bent?

you can see it if the head is off the car using a feeler gauge i presume? Im not sure. You should look for impact spots on the pistons, thats going to be easier to see than the valves themselves.
