Default Low oil pressure with new oil cooler

Hi I just wanted to read your comments. I´ve installed my Mfactory Oil cooler, there were no leaks, no other rare issues.
My oil pressure dropped from the 70 psi I had before on a cold start to 40.

Is this pressure drop normal?

I dont have a type R oil pump, will I need it? or will this raise my oil pressure?

any other suggestions?

thanks

what is it at operating temperatures?

I have not moved the car yet, I have not placed the bumper since I finished late last night...

However it seems kind of low for cold start pressure,
does some one knows if the type r oil pump will help to have a higher pressure?

you first need to determine why the pressure dropped.

maybe you need to add more oil ?? not sure just throwing something out there that might help. because i'd imagine you would need a little more oil then before now since its going through the oil cooler now as well. ,

I have used almost 6 quarts of oil now after letting the engine move the oil without the fuel pump fuse to keep the oil level ok, but now after ignition the pressure does not raise from 45 psi at 3k rpm.
Still have not moved the car yet, but the oil pressure drop is obviously due to the cooler installation, my question is if this is NORMAL o not.

No one has anything on the type R oil pump? haven't found anything concerning oil pressure changes after changing a b16 pump for a type r...

first ride and everything seems to be ok,
oil pressure at operating temperature, is at 50 psi maximum, it does not raise from that no matter what, I beleive the b16 oil pump is at its maximum capacity to make those 50 psi.

Just as a feedback from oil cooler, daily driving temperatures were significantly reduced, at night I used to have 240 F temps, nos its just in between the 180 and 210 line when normal driving, a little harder driving and it gets a little closer to the 210 mark. So looks great for me now, I just have to solve the pressure issue, in case that it may be a problem.

Any info on the type R pump or a modified oil pump?

That much of a pressure drop is not normal. What size lines are used, and does it use a thermostat? What are the ambient temps?

I run a Mocal thermostatic sandwich plate with a Mocal 25 row cooler (too large for daily driving) with -12AN hose. I have virtually no pressure drop. Pressure at start up is ~80 PSI with fairly thin Joe Gibbs XR1 oil (like a 5W20). Pressure at operating temp and high RPM (8000 RPM max) is around 85 to 90 PSI. Pressure was slightly higher when I was using Red Line SAE30 race oil, but the JG oil is thinner, so I suspect that's why the pressure is slightly lower.

As a general rule of thumb, 10 PSI per 1k RPMs is a good number to look for. 50 PSI max is not enough for your engine, IMO.

thanks for the comment, i'm using the -10AN lines that came with the cooler, I think they are big enough.

ambient temperature yesterday that I tested it, was around 85 celsius at 10 pm haha thats why i needed the cooler, its 108 F right now according to the google bar here in my pc.

Any suggestions on how to raise the pressure?

-10AN should be fine. You need to find the source of the restriction and eliminate it.

Is it a thermostatic sandwich adapter? I'm guessing that it's not.

We typically only see a 2 psi preasure drop once the kits are installed correctly, they are a preasurized system. No binds anywhere in the hosing?

Your engine is gonna explode!!! LOL.

JK, double check the routing of the oil lines from the block to the filter relocator, oil cooler and back to the block, maybe the inlet was really the outlet.

I think the problem may be the oil line that was a little smashed. Can you post some photos?

sounds like you have a leak some where. i would want to find out why press went down. worst comes to worst you could always shim the pump spring to bring your press back up, but you have a problem some where & that needs to be addressed first.

Double check the fittings and the adapters, make sure neither are leaking. You can also DL directions from the MF site @ http://www.mfactoryhk.com/ . Not to discredit you, just double check em' is all and I'm sure you'll find your problem

Everything double checked, no leaks, oil level ok but Oil pressure won't get above 50 psi.

I bought an ITR oil pump, I'll install it and let you know it anything changes, I don't want to hit my 10k RPM with this pressure.

You're 100% sure the lines are not connected backwards, correct? If so, the check valve in the oil filter could be the problem like someone already mentioned. The line routing DOES make a difference!

Before you go about changing the oil pump, remove the oil cooler kit, install a filter directly on the block, and check oil pressure again. If the oil pressure goes back up to where it was prior to the cooler install, the problem is not the oil pump. In this case, installing a different oil pump might fix the symptom, but it's not going to fix the problem. I really doubt there is a problem with the pump. The problem is likely with the oil cooler kit or the install.

You're asking for trouble if you don't do a little diagnostic work before changing pumps. You sound like your dead set on changing pumps, and I really don't think this is necessary. I've never seen this kind of pressure drop with any oil cooler that I've installed, even with smaller -10 line.

sounds like you installed the oil lines to the fitting backwards.....
