nClutch release bearing return spring keeps breaking... Cause?
1991 CRX Si with a DOHC ZC and DOHC ZC transmission; Centerforce stg1 clutch, Exedy 12lb flywheel, Honda TOB/release bearing.
About a month ago, I put the SOHC motor in the car for a temporary fix, and the clutch would not engage, I could move the lever on the front of the trans in its full range of motion. Pulled it all apart and noticed that the TOB was on the end of its 'slide' on the input shaft, and that the return spring hooks were broken. Put in a new TOB and return spring, everything is fine.
On Monday, no clutch. Took it apart yesterday to see the same thing... TOB was at the end of its 'slide' on the input shaft, and the return spring hooks were broken. What causes these springs to break? It was a Honda part, so I figure it shouldn't be an issue. I think the spring may be popping out, and maybe the TOB is smashing the hooks because the spring looks pretty mashed right there.
I'm going to put another spring and TOB in it, I just want to know why this happens.. Maybe I can avoid breaking it in the future, because I'm getting tired of pulling this damn engine.

Sorry noobie here. Can I ask how do you guys replace the release spring? I have the transmission out and the clutch spring is broken, but I can't remove the shaft that holds the spring out. Any advice? Thanks
