Hey guys. You probably saw my post about the bike with the pics.
Anyway, I was taking some pictures and was wondering what this red light means. It's next to the oil/water temp/FI symbol. I didn't get a manual with the bike, so I'm clueless right now.
I do know that it needs a tune-up cuz it's been sitting in a garage for a long time. Thanks, here's the picture:

EDIT: The oil light on the screen shuts off when the bike is started, as well as the word CHEC. Does that mean "check engine?" I'll get it for a tune-up as soon as I get it all registered. But right now, I'm just wondering what that light means.
Thanks.

the light means that the ignition is on, but the engine is not running. its fine. if that light comes on while the engine is running, then you have lost oil pressure and BAD THINGS are about to happen (or already have).
The CHEC indicator probly means the same thing - that the engine electronics are on and operating but the motor is not running. read the owners manual to be sure on this one.

I guess I should go get it checked out, eh?
Hmmm. That's not good. The red light stays on when the bike is on. I haven't really ridden it. Only taken it around my block (less than 1/4mile) and my backyard to take some pics.

but you said the light shuts off in your 1st post?
I wonder what "4707 chec" means...
Weird. How do you check if there's enough oil? The indicator on the side of the bike shows that there's oil in there. How much do I put in?
Sorry for the stupid questions about the oil.
to me. But you gotta learn somewhere, right?
I believe if the oil level is somewhat centered in the indicator you should be set. Also the color/condition of the oil, but that doesn't seem to be a factor. Are you checking the level cold, hot or running? It makes a difference, no?
You need to get the shop manuals and for the issue at hand, find the oil pressure sending unit and diagnose that. Usually a resistence mesurement is used to verify it is working/within limits....could also be disconnected...or another wiring issue...

Okay, I read up a little bit on gixxer.com and there are several posts about the red light. Since there were three symbols next to it, I didn't know which one it was.
They said that the LCD screen would tell you which one it was. Mine blinks FI and the temperature, telling me something with the FI is messed up.
They mentioned secondary throttle cable? Anyone know anything about this? I want to start posting in that forum, but I'm afraid I'm going to act like such a newb.

ok now we're on a different path
The FI needs to know the coolant temp for its lookup table to do timing and fuel. Maybe that sender is the problem...

if the Fi light stays on, you have a problem with either your secondary throttle sensor/control or some other fuel injection thing. Take it to a suzuki dealership and have it checked out. That thing will cut out on you if you're not careful.
does it come on every time you ride?? if not, then its okay. alot of late model gixxer's have had this light come on but with nothing wrong on the bike...

if it stays on then learn how to use the "dealer mode" of your bike. its similar to finding out the cel codes for hondas

Wow, thanks for fishing that post out of gixxer.com for me. I was trying to find information from there for the past couple days.
Thanks again. I'll have that code checked out today.

It's the check engine light, that tells you when something is wrong, IE: low oil pressure, overheating, ETC.
It should come on when you turn on the key to show you that it is working, and go off once the engine is started.
If it stays on, or comes on when the engine is running, shut the bike down, and check your fluids ASAP, or you'll risk destroying the engine, or worse, the engine will sieze up at speed, the rear wheel will lock up, and put you into a skid that will most likely take you down hard.
Use caution when checking the water in the radiator if the bike is hot, (let it cool)as severe burns can result from the pressure buildup of boiling water behind the cap.
Looking at the picture you posted, you will see that the OIL LAMP is lit on the Digital display, telling you that there is no Oil pressure to the engine, and the Thermometer symbol would show if it was an Overheating problem, so you know where the problem lies if it stays/comes on when the engine is running.
Ride Safe.

Thanks. The picture I posted is when the key is turned to the ON position, but the engine isn't running. I think all the lights pretty much light up in that position. When the bike is started, the oil indicator on the screen shuts off, but the red LED light stays on.
My friend who works on bikes came over and diagnosed the problem to be electrical. The fan isn't kicking on. The bike runs fine, but will start to rise in temp if idling for too much.
It's gotta be electrical because the turn signals aren't working either. Soon enough....it will be in perfect running order.
Thanks for the help guys.
