I am sorry to hear about that man. I really doubt it was because of doing a 5 lug swap though. It sounds like you needed new ball joints.

So basicly this thread is so you can tell your sad story.

The problem wasnt the actual swap but rather the labor that went into the swap. More than likely the castle nut was overtightened or the balljoint was simply on its last legs and ready to fail. I see no reason to warn people off of 5 lug swaps

Sorry to hear about it, atleast the both of you are still breathing. I had a balljoint pop on me last winter (the other one), still rockin the 4x114 pattern. When I replaced the one that broke I looked at its condition, boot was good, but it was just worn and beat up on the actual cup itself (my right rear popped clean out of the socket). Since then I made it my point to replace the other 3 for peace of mind. Basically, if anyone plans on doing a 5-lug swap, they should do the balljoints (and wheel bearings for good measure). Sorry about your loss man.

did i tell anyone not to do the swap? no, i didnt. i just want people to be aware of the consequences of using the balljoints that come with swaps, and that they should check the condition of the swap parts and check the balljoints, as that can lead to disasterous consequences.

hahahaha, you are an ignorant bastard. i guess youve never seen someone you love get hurt (badly, might i add) because of something you may have done that triggered it. god id kick your *** if you were in front of me. naive punk

LOL . Im sure you would kick my ***. You big mean man. Ignorance is not checking the suspension components before installing them. Especially used ones. Then making a thread with a long winded story that had nothing to do with the ball joint faliure...gtfo [pejorative].

are you seriusly considering sueing honda because you put a legend spindle on a prelude , come on not gonna happen, i would make sure you dont leave ball joints loose and they have no play in them after you install them

i wasnt a legend spindle, i was a prelude 97-01 spindle. and i was just throwing ideas out there... it shouldnt have 4 holes, it weakens the bolt...

BESIDES, you guys are so disrescetful... im trying to let people who may not think of swapping the balljoints know, and after what happened to me (which i can handle) but my wife too, to come into my thread and bash my ***? [freak] off.

wait til your wife gets seriously injured in a crash... then youll see where im coming from.

Every ball joint needs the hole for the cotter pin yes but it doesnt need 2 you only need to put the cotter pin in 1 hole so why drill a second one? And why wouldnt drilling a hole through a bolt weaken it? I dont see where you are getting that from at all.

theres more than just one hole because that one hole wont line up when its tightend so theres multiple holes, your ball joint should not even come loose to put pressure on the slotes on the nut, how strong do u think the aluminum cotter pin is? its there for a safe fail, like we said before just make sure there tight and no play in the joints, ball joints dont last forever, there gonna break if not checked every so often.
