just had my mech did a compression test on my car. he checked all four spark plugs and one of them were a lil rusty. spark plugs only 3 weeks old. knuckle head forgot to do the leak down test for me.
he recommend me to do head gasket and replace radiator at the same time.
labor: 150
head gasket kit: 80? will call dealer to check
resurface the head: 60
radiator: 130
how many different types of bad head gasket is there? from bad to worst?

head gasket kit: 80? will call dealer to check

A simple "rusty" spark plug means nothing. Perhaps your wires don't seal well and some water or condensation worked its way into the tubes... Unless the electrode itself was rusty, I wouldn't be concerned. If it WAS rusty then you should see low compression on that cylinder assuming the headgasket is the cause. You would also see steam in the exhaust, clean piston tops, noticeable drop in coolant level, increase in engine temp (read on the gauge), rapid cooling system pressure build up, etc. You can't tell me he determined that 150psi on all 4 cylinders + rusty plug tip alone means bad headgasket. If he was any sort of a decent mechanic he could at the very least use a block tester to confirm combustion chamber gases in the cooling system... doesn't sound to me like a good call.

i got to get my act together and get with the program. move with the crowd.

so should i just replace the radiator? that, i can do myself. maybe i should do that first.
