battery or alternator problem?
alright. so the other day i got into my car and the battery was dead.
took the battery to autozone and they charged it up and I threw it back in my car and drove for 1 day and a half.
Today the car died while on the road due to the battery.
So I thought it was the Alternator. Brought the alternator to Autozone and they tested it and it tested "PASS".
Now im confused. Im really hoping its not an electrical problem.
But the thing is. If my alternator was good and working. shouldnt it have been charging up my battery while i was drviing? Since my car died on me while I was driving it.
Or could it just be the battery, but autozone tested it too and it tested good.

Autozone is full of crap when it comes to testing. Start your car somehow..jump start it or push start it if manual transmission. While the car is on, un-hook the [+] Positive cable off the battery, if the car turns off means ur alternator is bad. But i will suggest u make sure the cable from the alternator is well in tact with the alternator and the fusebox or battery. (not sure if it rusn straight from alternator to battery or fuse first. i think mine is under hood fuse then battery.). and if u take off [+] cable off battery and car keeps running, most likely ur battery is dead. (check make sure the water on the battery is to level) and when replacing water, always use pure drinking water. Also make sure ur cables to ur battery have good contact as well as the alternator one.

is it supposed to stay running or shut off? if it stays running then the alt is good right? and off then the alt is bad?

althou8gh disconnecting the battery wire while the engine is running will verify your alternator is working, it is NOT recomended as the voltage surge and noise from the alternator have been kown to damage electroincs. If you have a volt meter set it to a DC volts range that covers up to 15 voltsDC and connect it to your battery, after you have charged it overnight, let it stand for at least 4 hours and chech the voltage on the batery itself, it should be 12.5 volts or more. Then put it back in your car, start the engine and watch the meter again, it should not drop below 10 volts while cranking. When the engine starts, the voltage should be more than 12.5 volts, but not more than 14.2 ish. If the voltage does not rise when the engine is running, it is not charging. Check all wires from the alternator to the battery, and some have an external regulator plug, check that for loose or corroded pins, also there is a charging or ALT fuse soewhere in your fuse box, check that too. Oh, also check the ground cable from the engine block to the chassis and battery negative, often overlooked.

Check fuse #15 on the indash fuse box under the steering wheel... usually fuse #15 will blow thus making ur vehicle speed sensor non functional.. your car dies because its running off the battery.. the battery is just used to crank the engine and then the alternator takes over.. if you want change or check fuse #15.. then start your car and pull off the battery cables and see if ur car still runs.. if it does then ur alternators okay.. if it dies then ur alternator is bad..
fuse #15 blown= vehicle speed sensor not working and alternator = vtec wont engage= drain battery= CEL light= dead car..

I have a problem with a honda civic lx 96. The fuse #15 blow up always when i switchon the key. Some times the alternator charge and sometimes not, the battery was good. This fuse controlls alternator, speed sensor, oxigen sensor, VSS, EVAP purge vent, TCM (CVT) & ELD unit (USA). The problem was a short behind the motor upper side I don't know what sensor was but a wire due to temperature was touching the motor. Check if you dont have problems with this fuse if not, check all other comments...
