IDLE raises in NEUTRAL
i have a 96 civic EX. everytime i go in neutral my rmp goes to 2500 for about 5 seconds, and then it goes back down to normal. it does it everytime, but i dont think it happens when im going from first to neutral though, i might have to check on that. does anyone know what could be the problem? i thuoght it had something to do with my o2 sensor... but i just got it fixed today at the dealership. so iuno what do you guys think

its stick. iuno i find it a lil strange because should your rmp go down when you go back to neutral... the rmp actually raises, and then drops. you can actually hear the engine when its going up to 2500, just wondering if theres something wrong never happened to my old ek
I know my car does this sometimes in the winter. Since the engine is cold it idles higher to warm up. BUT! when you are driving, well actually as soon as you get to the friction point, it drops. So then, when you push the clutch in again it raises back up to keep warming up.

i noticed that it only rises when im rolling in neutral. the rpm falls when i come to a COMPLETE stop. but if i'm still rolling, it raises all the way to 2500 until a complete stop. i hope this helps
I doubt that rolling or completely stopped would make a difference, honestly. It just doesn't make sence to my knowledge.
I would vote Idle Air Control or a vacuum leak, both previously mentioned.
Do the RPMS drop if the car is warmed up vs when its cold. If it only does it when the car is cold its probably normal. Well, mine revs to about 1500 when its really cold, but then drops to about 800 at idle when it warms up.

no im pretty sure when im rollin in neutral it will stay at 2500 rpm. i rolled for a good 10 seconds and all i can hear is my engine. and when it comes to a COMPLETE stop, then the rpm goes to under 1000. weird.....
that is really weird, i would also take alook into a bad bearing in your tranny i think i hear it making noise when ur driving hehe, hope ya figure this out, it would drive me crazy!!
haha i know, it does drive me crazy, i dont even wanna drive it. i wonder if im wasting gas also because when im rolling its still at 2500. but a friend of mines who went to autozone or whatever said it was the system idle processor
