Timing Cover Missing How to Set Timing?
My Timing Cover is missing so there is no little arrow to line up the gun too on my Engine (b18a1) Is there anyway to set the timing without it? Maybe some markings on the engine somewhere?
Thanks

if you take the valve cover off there should be holes in the cams that pins( drill bit or large nail) can go though to lock the cams a TDC then all you have to do is turn the motor over till the #1 cylinder is at tdc( look at dizzy rotor under cap and watch till it turns to the #1 plug area) and drop the pins in. Unless you have aftermarket cams this should work fine
Thanks. But I just did the timing belt and know I had it TDC. But to get the idle to run right (I thought) I had a guy adjust the distributor, I dont think it is timed right now. Do I need to take the valve cover off just to readjust the timing via distributor? If so, cool. Just checking. I was hoping there was some marking I could use with the tiiming light.
Thanks

That does not make much sense when your looking far a mark to use for the timing light.
Your best bet to set it right is to find the lower plastic cover, pull the crank pulley off and put that plastic in there where it belongs.

I thought he needed to check timing because he thought the belt slipped or was off a tooth. then yes you need the cover to check the ignition timing, I posted how to check the cam timing my bad
