turbo my integra
ok i have a ? i have an stock ls integra an i want to turbo it my friend came up with a good idea i think ok lets start off my car has 150,000 miles on it an he wants to turbo my integra he thinks i should get an turbo out of an 86-89 turbo becuase they are low boost turbos meanin quick spool but ok now my main thing do you my ls can hand the turbo with everything stock with low boost at like 7-8 psi ? do you think i will blow anything? thanks mike
with that many miles i would be hesitant to turbo it... first off i would be compression tests, leakdown tests, etc. to make sure the engines healthy. then i would also only do 7 psi MAX on that many miles when stock and even then id be a little scared just because you said EVERYTHINGS stock on it... then if i did turbo it, i wouldnt drive it and instead take it straight to a tune shop and have it tuned to make sure everythings adjusted properly to be able to handle the boost... the tuner will also be able to tell you if you need to change other parts to allow the turbo to work properly and not cause damage.
im thinking he means off an older car like 86-89 haha... but i have a da back in the stock days i turbo'd it with 152,xxx miles ran 12psi daily. lasted until 165,xxx when i blew it up on 18psi on purpose, being i was putting my built motor in. if the compression test goes well and its tune i say go for it

When I did mine it had 126k. I did bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, dyno tuned, etc. All the things your suppose to. I only drove it a few thousand miles. Sold it. Then heard the kid blew it up not long after.
I guess the moral of the story is freshen up the motor before boosting......unless you just plan on rebuilding after it detonates!
