advice for setup on 1990 DA
i just got a 1990 DA that i am looking to build i am hoping to touch low 12's or maybe even get into 11's, i was wanting to know what is the best setup and would i be able to do it with a b18a1 or would it only be possible with a gsr?
there's a whole lot you can do with a ls. a lot of people boost it and i've seen good numbers from that. and others do the ls/vtec route. or you can build a non vtec motor. there's a whole lot of opportunities with a b series motor. good luck
ive seen a couple nice b18a setups..i would do a compression test. if everything is good. i would get a turbo kit, with the right setup and i good driver you could take it into the 12's, with some suspension and weight reduction
I would search for a bit and gather information than come back and ask questions that are more detailed for a build, your not going to get every answer you need from this thread. You can still use your b18a1 though either building that for turbo, or get a vtec head and do a ls/vtec turbo what will def get you into the 11/12sec area

me personally i went the jdm b16 route got tired of just having vtec so i boosted that beezy. hitting 12 psi now and my block isn't even sleeved. it's been very reliable. custom log manifold dsm 450 cc injectors custom intercooler piping no name bov and t3/t4 turbo. haven't taken it to the strip yet but i think it'll hit 12's maybe 11's. murks on stangs evo's and sti's so i'm happy.
dsm injectors? as in mitsubishi dsm? ive never heard of that before, i dont have vtec though i have the b18a1 ive been thinking about dishing out for a gsr but i just want to think about it first because i want to make the right choice i dont wanna blow it up because its my dd but at the same time i want it to be a beast i need it to be safely done
well my car is my dd and I was the same way. I wanted to make sure that my car was done properly. so I just did research and did it myself. cause any amount of power can be achieved on any motor with enough money.
I say do a compression test and turbo it. You can safely push 8 psi, and then some if you have it tuned properly. If you do go turbo or supercharger you have to run 93 octane gas. That will hit your pocket, depending how much you drive. My supercharged GSR gets like 3 gallons to a mile. LOL.
yeah I know what you mean I have to put 91 octane gas and it costs about $4.69 a gallon right now. I'm thinking about just putting 110 octane race gas being that it only costs $5.99 a gallon. but back to the subject at hand. piece a kit together. you'll spend less in most cases.
