Default burns oil, go for b18c5 head?

Hello, my high milage '97 gsr is burning a bunch of oil. it still runs great and all but im losing like 1 qt per 2000 miles or so :/ im sure itll run fine for now, but i was looking around for future options and found out new b18c5 complete heads go for 1500? should i go that route or try and just rebuild the current head? thanks for your input.

how many miles are on ur motor? its not the head. ur rings are starting to go. a new head isnt gonna do anything. before u buy anything, u need to do a compression test and a leak down test. compression test will let u know if u have a bad head gasket and a leak down test will let u know which pistons need new rings.... goodluck. i had the same problem.

im in the position your in now.. only my motor goes through about a qt a week... the head isnt the problem... if its anything in the head its probably the valve seals which is a cheap fix compared to a whole head.. but my giess is also piston rings

I wouldn't worry about it, thats actually pretty good for a higher mileage gsr engine.

oh alright cool, so it would probably be my piston rings then from what u all r telling me. I will get it tested just to make sure. But on that note, if I am already going to replace the piston rings, might as well replace them with itr pistons and rings then? It seems that this would bump my compression up higher, would I need other modifications to make it safer? how much more power would itr pistons alone make anyways?

1 quart per 2k miles is not excessive. heck i wouldn't replace it unless it smokes

yeah, like the rest of us

yeah, i'd agree... but i may depend on your miles and if you're just dailying the car or tracking... of course, it depends on how much the car's worth to you and if it's worth it to do a rebuild. on my 96 gsr daily that i bought about a year ago for several grand, i just sunk probably close to ... $750-1000 on a rebuild? it had 200k on the odometer and i figured i would drive it much longer. you can easily sink $750-1500 on a rebuild so if the car's not worth much to begin with, you're just driving to and from places, and you're only burning a quart per oil change, it's not "too" bad. i'd for sure keep in mind normal maintenenace such as paying attention to your belts and such.
