1. does anyone have any preferance over the next ?

2. level of comfort ? (in and out of car)

3. fitment ?

4. ease of putting the unit on when its time to go ?

5. is one any more safe than the other ?

I have only used a Hans device so I can not speak about the other brands. I will try and answer some questions.

2. level of comfort ? (in and out of car) I normally just put my hans device on in the car all you do is slip it on. I have seen some people leave the device connected to the helmet and slip them both on it looks a little more complicated to get on vs doing it apart.

3. fitment ?

4. ease of putting the unit on when its time to go ? After you use it a few times you will be able to put the hans on and off in a matter of seconds. I usually sit in the car slide the device on and then put my belts on and tighten them up. I then put the helmet on and connect the two straps one on each side and you are ready to go.

The hans device will restrict your movement a little bit from left to right but you will get use to it. The tabs you have to install in your helmet will take a little bit of time to do the measurements and make sure you have it right. I don't even realize the device is on it is so light and non obtrusive.

I use the hans, too Dave. It seemed a bit better to me because the other style actually has a backplate. I didn't like the feel of it beween me and the seat. The hans was much more comfortable.

I have only used the Hans device and I like it . Its easy enough to strap in your self a plus ! Only thing that you have to get used to is the pressure of it against your collarbones while your strapped in and its not really bad at all . I have crewed for someone that used the R3 and it takes 2 people to strap the driver in .

Have the anchors installed by HANS or a liscenced dealer, you won't wreck your helmet and it's done very cleanly.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I don't know how you can wreck your helmet installing the device. You simply measure and mark them helmet then drill two 1/4 holes and screw the tabs in. It is so easy anyone south of CT can do it.

This is what someone from HANS posted on another car forum that I'm on:

"I just wanted to offer some additional information on your discussion of the HANS Device, or any head and neck restraint (HNR) for that matter.

We hear all the time that someone doesn't go fast enough to wear an HNR. First, its not how fast you go, its how fast your stop. Speed hasn't killed or injured anyone that I can think of. Its that sudded stop at the end that causes the damage. Do you know at what speed the SFI tests HNR's for certification? They simulate a 70g crash at approximately 35mph. NASCAR measured Dale Earnhardt's impact with the wall at 43mph. I'm not saying a HNR would have saved his life.

If anyone has any questions concerning HNR's or the HANS Device, please feel free to contact me at hbennett at hansperformance.com.

I personally own a HANS device and Simpson Bandit helmet. Pics below are of my setup.

Do you think it was worth it to buy the quick release for your hans? I thought about it when I first got the device but after I used it a few times I could not justify spending the money on them. How do you like them?

FWIW....

We have been using a Hans for years in the circle track car. The fitment is great and not restrictive like the R3. I have tried both. The only thing I wish the Hans had is a wider shoulder. You get use to it pushing into your shoulder/collar, but it would be nice to have it cover more area so you feel it less. If that makes sence.... lol

If I were to go through the purchase process again I would still buy a Hans over the rest.

And like Ryan said I would have Hans do the work.... I would hate to ruin a $500+ helmet.

I use the R3 and love it. Diana uses the R2 because she is tiny and it fits her better.
