jdm b16 mpg in crx? have another question inside. please help :)
well here is my situation.. i was wondering what mpg you guyz are getting in your swapped b16 rex's.. i just got myself a jdm b16 but very hesitant to swap it into my rex.
reason being- i work as a delivery boy and drive 100+miles a day five days a week and more on the weekends.. my stock motor gets about 320 a tank right now.. would it be wise to swap the b16 into the rex? can a b16 handle that much driving?
thanks hope you guyz can help w/ my dilemma.

Why would it not be able to handle the driving? Its a honda engine. Its not
like its fragile now or something......whats the big deal?
And Im getting about 300 to a tank......And thats with full exhaust and all the bolt ons.

it depends on what you do to the motor. i am getting 25/30 city/hwy driving enthusiastically. if i'm good i can probably squeeze 35mpg out of it (your 320 a tank or better), and i've got CAI, catback exhaust, and sticky 205/50r15 tires. on stock tires you'll do better.
i think you'll find the b16 faster and more fun than stock. only down side is the high rpm on the hwy, so i hope you like the exhaust note

just cause its a b16 doesnt mean its not honda reliable. i bet there is a sir in japan with over 400k km on it. just depends on how you take care of it

30 mpg almost regardless of how hard I drive her. I drove for Domino's in my b16 swapped rex and I would highly recommend it- the only thing that sucked was the lack of heat and AC. As far as the reliability of the motor is concerned, don't worry about it- worry about the peripheral components i.e. starter, waterpump, IACV etc...
oh and by swapping the b16 into my bone stock engine bay would it depreciate the value of my car? since my engine bay is bone stock no mods..

i would say that short term it increases the value of the car, but as it becomes collectible it's hard to say. you see some of these 'resto-mods' on barrett jackson go for big bucks, but it depends on who wants the car. you can always keep the stock stuff in storage if you want to convert back
god knows i wouldn't have paid what i did if my crx was stock...i got a ton of cool parts, some installed, some not

same here, about 30-34mpg on highway if im easy on the throttle, i got plenty of blot ons as well! plus no reverse! i drive about 250 some miles a week for the past 6 years, only prob iv had with it was timing, dizzy replacement (which i think will need again or at least a timing job) but thats about it! maybe clean the k&n filter in the stock air box once and while. dont worry about it, swap and your golden!
about the value, hmmm...yeah, really depends on whos gonna by the car, as long as it doesnt have a tenzo r vavle cover, your cool!
for the old school 5zigen exhaust!

ok so let me help you out a bit. i drive a 91 hatch back. b16a swap obd-1 with an LS transmission. i work 6 days a week 60+ hours a week. i never fill my car up. i always run it to the same mark on my gauge then throw in $20. the last tank i ran.... $20 @ $3.69 a gallon = 5.4 gallons roughly. ive been consistantly running 180-195 miles on that $20. i dont baby my car all the time and i dont rag it out. and the b16 in my eyes is a very strong motor has made me a lot of money delivering never had a problem with it. i hopethis helps you out. if u have any more questions just hit me up...

Keep the stock engine if its treating you okay. At 500 miles a week that is 25,000+ miles per year, I can tell you I wouldn't want to do that to my swapped-engine car if its what I depend on to make my bread and butter. When it blows up, put the B16 in it.... Super clean car though!
thanks.. yea thats what i was thinkin.. i've put 25000 on my rex since i've had this job.. and thats in less than a year..

A long *** time, as long as you dont let it rust, in or out....Keep it in a place
that doesn't alow changes in humidity or too much temperature.
Cover any openings.
