Default The Right Price for an 03' S2k With 85k

Guys,

Hello, I have been looking all over for an S2000, I looked at 2 today and I found one that I really like, it's at a small dealership that sells mostly convertibles. They are asking 14,900 for it. It has 85,xxx. It's GPW with tan interior. I drove it and had a blast. I talked to my father about it since he is in the car business and he says that they are asking too much for the car with that many miles on it. I searched up on NADA and the clean retail value for the car is 17,150. I would consider the car in Good condition. The interior has a few small defects, I could notice one tiny dent behind the pass side headlight, hard to notice on GPW..and also looks like the S 2000 logo on the pass fender was glued back on and you can see some glue around the letters...oh and the headlights have eyelids on them, which I really want to take off but there looks like there's gonna be a lot of sticky left from the 2 sided tape stuff.. With all the dealer fees and stuff like that it comes to 16.3xx total. Is this way too much for this car? or is this a good deal?? They printed a car fax report out for me and there are no accidents on it or anything... I really like the GPW. So Is there anyone out there that can give me advice before I decide on this one?? I was told to never pay the dealership exactly what they are asking for the car. I would greatly appreciate any advice, thanks!!!

i would say that it is an ok deal for the following reasons

1) its GPW which is one of the rarer/more desirable colors
2) its an 03 model which is the newest AP1

It really depends on what you want from it, try to take the price a bit lower and see what happens.. at worst u'll walk away or pay that price right?

hey,

thanks a lot, that does make a lot of sense. I talked to the dealer and I remember him mentioning that you don't find many of the whites around, he also mentioned that the yellow s2k's don't sell too fast because I think it's because people either love or hate the yellow. He mentioned a lot about 'market value' I suppose that is where the more desirable GPW comes in. The engine bay is very clean and looks pretty new. The brakes on the car look very new, the pads have lots of life... also there are slotted rotors on the car all the way around..i don't think that is stock, is it? The tires look great too. I really liked the car. I also forgot to mention that 2 of the wheels are curbed, it's a medium rash, not light but not deep. It doesn't matter too much to me about the wheels, I plan on getting after market ones in the future. Thanks for the reply, anyone else have any advice??

lol AP1 wheels are near worthless, i personally like the look but i would use one as a doorstop if i had an extra. the stock rotors were not slotted, so ill bet that the pads are aftermarket as well.. does this dealership offer any warranty? if they do, try to get the warranty in exchange for meeting their asking price.

really? yea I don't care a lot if the wheels are crappy.. well they did offer me a 12 month warranty (unlimited miles) on all internally lubricated parts in the engine and transmission. I read it over.. they also offered free towing service and roadside assistance. It sounded like a good warranty. They said they offer it to make their customers feel a little better/safer about buying a used car. The car was silent and nothing rattled.. it had an alpine cd player in it too. Shifting was awesome but.. reverse was a little hard to get into though.. is that common ? I personally don't mind the price.. it seems fair to me considering the condition that it's in and it's not a common s2k color.. I see silverstone and the other metallic silver car the most.

there it is!

its a great deal because its white. white is a very sought after S2000 color. 75%+ of s2k's are silverstone.

averdeal if it was silver but jump on it for the gpw

awesome. yeah white is the color I definitely want and I'm not sure that my dad understands that you dont see many white s2k's for sale.. especially an 03' at that price.
He wants me to offer them something really low but compared to all the other white s2k's i saw for sale, this one seemed like I was getting a good deal. He knows a lot about the car business and he knows that the dealers got that car for way cheaper than it's really worth... the salesman told me that the car was a trade-in. so i'm sure they are asking an ok price. It may be a little higher than what it should be but that car rocks and I don't care to pay that price. I just sold my 240sx coupe so i got 3200 out of it and i'm going to subtract that off of the price and to me, it's a discount because I made a really huge profit off of it.. simply because I got extremely lucky and someone was selling it for dirt dirt cheap and didn't know what they had. Thanks a lot guys for helping. Hopefully I'll be bringing it home tuesday and when I do, i'll post some pics!

That is not a bad price especially from a dealer. I say get it. GWP is a pretty rare color and IMO looks absolutely bad ***. Just be ready. Every thing is expensive on this car. From brakes to wheels, tires, gas, etc. If you have the means then go for it. You will love the car and you will have a blast driving it. I know I love mine.

The slots in the front painted white concerns me. also i dont see a front grill, it could just be the lighting og the picture though.

Have you run a carfax on the car? The way the front is pained like that and the emblem is freshly glued on makes me think there is something they are not telling you about this car.

this front end has been painted. i'll look at the front end of the car more closely and check for any damaged parts. check the ac condenser and radiator for bends and the front support for any damage. also triple check the paint job and look for vin # stickers on the hood, bumper and fenders...

if everything checks then offered them $13,500 for it since it was probably in an accident and never reported...

I would be suspicious being that the front bumper has been repainted incorrectly. Not overly suspicious but hopefully the OP does more investigation before buying. If it is found to have been in an accident and then repaired the OP is well within his right to offer what he did, especially with the somewhat high mileage.

Guys... I learned something the other morning from a friend of mine that does paint.. he pointed out to me on my 240 that it had been painted ... he mentioned something about fisheyes... I saw them in various places around the s2k... the grill in the front bumper looks like crap,, it's sorta bent in a corner and itsn't fitting in perfectly.. yes what the dealer told me is that they repainted the bumper because it had some rock chips in it. i also noticed a few other places on the edge of the drivers side door that had touch up paint on it. I looked closely at the radiator support and it looked pretty good.. I'm going to look at a yellow one in a few minutes with significantly lower mileage.

how do u not notice fisheyes? you dont need to paint in order to see em...they ruin pain jobs!!! more noticeable on dark colored cars. . . .

I got my black 02 w/85k for 13.2. It is in awesome condition. Try and talk him down to atleast that. In my opinion the asking price is a bit too high for all the cosmetic damage you say it has.

being in the car business like your dad I'm gonna say that is not a good price at all but, to the average consumer that might not seem so bad. FYI i took in an 02 with 50k miles for $9000 on trade about 3 moths ago.
