make sure your tires are properly inflated. Dont get on the pedal much shift sooner. re-gear your car. put a bigger motor in a lighter car.

tire inflation would fall under routine maiteince . I am talking about stuff you can put on or take off your car for better mileage and driving fast is too addictive although I still get around 35mpg

Put your car on a diet. Less weight = less fuel to burn to get and keep it moving. Lightweight tires and wheels will likely make the biggest difference unless you are already running little steelies and pizza cuters.

Check GasSavers.org. You can keep track of your gas mileage there on a chart (which compares the stock gas mileage too). This can help to keep your driving style in check.

They'll also have more ideas in their forum.

^yes, that helps a lot
Add a rear diffuser
Seal off gaps between body panels
Add a front spoiler
Add an afc or ecu chip to run the car slightly more lean (though not too far)

This has been covered a lot lately - search for more.

Isnt it? Easy way to go too far, especially if you have no clue what youre doing.
But it would definitely work and has been done.

The maps on my ecu are decreased slightly, actually...though I havent run it yet

draft 18-wheelers on the highway if you don't care about rocks chipping your car

Add some aerodynamic paneling to your undercairage to lower the drag coeficient.

So...my son put 14" rims on my 92 DX. Looks like it came standard with 13". If I go back to 13" rims do you feel my mpg will incrase? I do not have widers tires just 14" instead of 13". I get 39mpg now...how much of an improvement might I see?

Thanks

If you lower the car, it will reduce the amount of air going underneath it. this will reduce the drag and give you noticeably better fuel economy.

Skinnier tires with lower drag will also help.

Weight reduction will definitely help, especially around city with lots of stop and go. At highway speeds, air drag and tire drag are the 2 major factors.
