Help: Click / Pop noise comming from the front of the car. Metal on Metal
i've been getting this metal on metal noise for the longest time now...i get it from accel and when i hit the brakes when almost close to a dead stop it makes a clicking/poping noise like metal on metal.
only thing i think there is left that i haven't changed is rack & pinion, subframe, and wheel bearings. i had the motor out once and went to move the car and i hear it click/pop. if anyone has any other ideas please let me know...getting pretty pissed off..
changed
- all front lca bushings fork/inner/rear
- front driver side ball joint
- front sway bar end link bushings
- front sway bar d-bushing
- front upper arms
checked
- all suspension bolts
- both axles to see if there is play
- front calipers to see if it's tight
- motor mounts *innovative 75a*
- all mounts if tightened properly
- rear l bracket

a wheel bearing would not make those noises you are describing
i am baffled as well.

changed the driver side axle, passenger side is still good no play.

i put my money on the wheel bearing.
i bet it sounds like you are constantly braking on metal brake pads, and it doesnt make noise when driving at normal speed, but it does when desaccelerating....
lift the side where the noice is comming from and feel if the wheel is loose, like it the lug nuts are not well tighten.

Ask Erik95ls, he had a similiar thing happen and he determined it was his driverside balljoint, had to replace it like three times and for some reason it just stopped. See if that maybe it. GL

i was reading some old threads and this came up https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2053967 but i know the axles are good, but maybe a wheel bearing? but there is no noise from the wheel bearing at all...any ideas?
Mine is just a click, but really annoying!
Hopefully you'll find the cause b/c I sure couldn't.

mine started doing the same a while ago.. and all the bolts seems to be fine.
i get this noise when i get on / off the gas. and pulling in/out of drive way.
it doesnt make this noise when i drive fast or take hard corners. only at LOW speed.
it makes the noise when i take off from stop. and its worse when the wheel is turned

I have the exact same problem ever since I lowered my car. I'm going to replace the wheel bearing since I know the axle and ball joint are good. I will report back if I ever get rid of the clicking.

I've had this same problem, I made a post about a year or so about it. I never found the problem. I just got used to the sound.
After so the long the sound just went away. I can't correlate any work that I did just because I stopped paying attention to the sound.
I personally believe its a bearing. Wether its the wheel, itermeditate shaft, or the bearing that sits right next to the diff inside the tranny (can't remember what its called).
I have not replaced any of my bearings however. I've just taken the front suspension apart and dropped the transmission a few times.

as far as wheel bearing goes. mines are all new. they got replaced few months ago.
so i know it's not the wheel bearings. and of course if wheel bearing is bad. there will be play on the wheel itself. and making whin'ing noise when u drive.

I just changed a bad wheel bearing yesterday. It would make a "wub wub wub wub" sound at speeds 25 MPH and higher. The faster you go, the louder it will get. You can check if you have a bad bearing by holding the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and wiggle. If there's play, bearing is bad.

if your car is lowered and it has been lowered without camber correction for more than 50-60k miles. it is most likely the bearing.

my wheel bearing does not make any noise like a worn brake pad or any kind. your still thinking that it can be the wheel bearing that is still making the click / pop sound? i can try it out tomorrow and change the driver side one.

do u think t might be your firewall flexing? u have really stiff mounts... is it possible your booter/master cylinder is flexing on the firewall when shifting and braking? ... ive heard of this and experienced this phenomena first hand with very stiff mounts. are u running a 3 point strut bar that bolts to the firewall? i dont know too much about the type r dc2 chasis... but i just read your post and it sounded familiar to me.

yeah. before i replaced wheel bearing. when i took a turn on uneven road. i heard metal to metal / brake "on" sound. and got home and checked my wheel. and it moved 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock motion. replaced wheel bearing. that problem's gone. but still have the clunk sound
