Default Finally drove an R (couple actually) on track...

Thanks to Yoshi and Dan for letting me take their cars out. The R is truly impressive. No wonder every single press that reviewed it just raves about it. I don't usually trust most reviews unless it is done by guys like Mario Andretti and Bryan Herta, or Phil Hill... etc. But anyway, Dan has a bone stock 00 R and Yoshi has a mildly modified 00 R (stock suspension tho). Didn't time Dan's car; just had it out for a few laps and there were traffic so no clean laps. But I got a good session in Yoshi's car on late Sat. afternoon, despite 105+ F, street tires (Yoko A520), mild mods (stoptech 12.9" brakes, street pads, header, exhaust) and very much babying the car (short shifting at 8k, double clutched up/down shifts, and no riding curbs, I turned 2:19.x in it in config #13 CCW. the car easily had 2 seconds or so left. the car is totally tossible in high speed and even mid speed corners (~50 mph). no wonder it did so well in G stock... and is right @ home on circuits even in stock trim.

all of you guys that own an ITR have never tracked it (or never sat in a well driven bone stock R on track) is REALLY missing out. stock R + track pads + R tires would kick a lot of *** already.

it was good to meet you guys Dan, Robert, Hung (sp), Yoshi, Jay (was it? we didn't formally shake hands, i just heard yoshi say your name). thanks for letting me crash at the hotel and for all the water supply. i didn't get a chance to say good bye but i did see you guys take off (i was up in the towers). hope you guys take the R out back on the track soon. it's where it BELONGS!

I have driven my friends Type R on numerous occasions. I have never driven his on the track, but driving it on the street leaves me with an excellent impression. The suspenion is awesome from the factory, and with a little tweaking you have a crazy handling car. Type R gets my vote!

daym frank, j00 at home already?!?!?

I'm glad j00 had fun driving our ITRs
For those in socal (& pretty soon at the Trac Quest event @ Mid Ohio), make sure you guys have Frank instruct you. Thanks to Frank and Don Mock(sp), I was able to get down to 2:21's. [Frank 0wnz me! lol]

Well, I have a lot of fun...except for the little drama w/ ITR607 (vdo coming soon ) NASA has a bunch great guys working for them and the event was run really well. LOTs and LOTS of emergency and tow trucks

The StopTech Big Brake Kit worked flawlessly all weekend Gawd, I love these brakes! But just when I thought I was going to have a trouble free weekend.....

yshi - whose tyred as fug and is going to slEEp now - zzzz

you guys should have stuck around. in the last hour there were only 4-5 cars out in each of the sessions. if you stuck around we probably could've gotten you into sub 2:20 easily. NASA-LA runs well. I was telling Ryan F. his crew is small, tight, and efficient. Very impressive. Are you guys gonna go to the Vegas event?

Ddub: double clutch up shifts. i'm about the only person i know that does it. performing the work of the synchros manually... babes the gearbox and clutch.

Hey...I was driving north on I-5 when I saw you guys on the other side heading home. I think I noticed two PY, one CW (#301), and one black Type R. Did I leave anybody out? Glad to hear that all you guys had a good time and came back safely.

The sight of R's caravaning definitely stirs the soul. I was stuck in a V6 Accord the whole way down and up, and seeing your cars made me long for my R. I can't count the number of times I wanted to downshift to third to pass instead of waiting for the slushbox to do it.

the muff kept coming off it's hanger during each session.
fix #1: zip tie the hangars - zip ties broke
fix #2: safety wire the chit of the hangars and just leave it off the rubber hangars

Dimsum:
it was two PY (me = #757, ITR1413 = #999), CW (ITR607 = #310), and a blk ITR

yshi - who had fun driving home thru the gravevine w/ 3 other ITRs

In 2 weeks time I start 2 months holidays. I plan to get in 3 - 5 days at the Wakefield Park. 2.5 - 3 hr drive south of Syndey. Near Goulburn. Loads of fun and not too expensive. Here's an overhead photo of the track:- http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au/site/frameset.cfm

Plus a week Snow Skiing/Boarding at Thredbo.
Check the Web Cams at this site if you've never seen snow in Australia.
http://www.thredbo.com.au/winter02/index_bpre2.html

.. and attend another mates wedding.
Geez, There goes another one. They're falling like flies.

Remember:- The bloke with the most toys at the end is the winner.
Later.

Haha, for the safety wire, but you shouldn't have to do that... Are you using the full Mugen exhaust or just the axleback?

datalogger says the remix did 2:19.64 in the 1st session when I asked Berry Hartzel (he finished 2nd in Mazda SpeedCup @ Laguna Seca recently) to sit in with me and give me some pointers... I was sure that I was even faster in the fasternoon but perhaps the heat... (it was only 95F in morning. 110F in afternoon). The Impreza I seem to be running pretty much neck to neck with got it down to 2:15's, but my logger is only showing 2:19-20 in the later session... or perhaps the logger memory was full?? hmm...

the Falken Ziex ZE502 is so so on track, long time ago on the HPL list somebody said they were good. they felt fine on the street but felt similar to Kumho Ecasta 712's... decent, but only gets a 8 out of 10. it allows just about 1g lateral accceleration wheras the BFG g-force T/A KD's allow litlte bit over 1.1g, sometimes spikes to 1.2g on transition.

I can't wait to join you guys...just waiting on clutch/flywheel, pads and rotors. How much do these ventures cost (the whole trip)?
