I know that ITR and maybe CTR pistons come with the anti-friction coating on the skirts and all...

But what if you're using uncoated forged pieces..do you think its worthwhile if you're putting together a motor?

I know some people send their headers to them, but I was just wondering if anyone got anything else coated, how it worked out etc...

I don't have any info for you. But there is an article in PRI Magazine, Performance Racing Industry, May 2002, entitled: Coatings, Life Insurance for Race Parts.

The GoldCoat piston crown and combustion chamber coating reduces heat absorbtion, which with forged pistons allows you to run tighter wall clearances for less piston slap and friction, and with the moly based skirt coating you can reduce friction further. The goldcoat can prevent burnt pistons from running too lean.

The bad part is that the pistons, chamber, valves, whatever don't transmit enough heat away from the air/fuel, possibly making the engine more prone to detonation.

I don't have first-hand experience with the coatings, but the coatings are good insurance against burnt parts.

If you plan on getting a set of forged pistons coated, consult with swain and the piston manufacturer about how much you should reduce your clearance.

didnt use swaintech but
I had the 12.5 JE's ceramic coated tops and moly skirts
all i think so far is that my compression may be a bit more than 12.5 as the top coating was pretty thick

Yeah I was thinking perhaps the skirts, Valves, and the Intake manifold but...don't at least the ITR pistons come already coated in molybdenum (sp) ? what about the ctr pistons?
