having a hard time identifying what tranny i have. i sure its not an ls. dont want to pull tranny and count teeth just to get an answer. my car sits at 3800 rpm in 5th doing 80mph. can you give an educated guess as to which tranny this is. b16 or gsr.

give a few more speeds / rpms in other gears. I am sure this will help those who help you because it is my understanding some 3rd gears are similar.

I went through 3 transmissions.
GSR at 80 is pretty much right at 4k
B16 tranny at 80 is right at 4300
ls at 80 is at 3700.
check it if you want

set the redline at the rpm you want to see the speed

it's an ls tranny. at 80 mph my gsr tach is straight at 4. my ls would show 3700.
btw, tire and wheel size will not affect the relationship between the displayed rpm and speed. the ecu doesn't know what size tire you have.

are you on crack
????? of course tire size and rim size well affect rpm and speed. the lower profile your tires the shorter your gears well be. the same goes with if you get a smaller rim(unless you compensate with the tire) your gears well be taller if you get bigger profile tires, too. sames goes for rims here too.

nope, no crack. you're right, the tire size will affect the relationship between rpm and speed; i said it won't affect the relationship between the displayed rpm and speed. if you were to check the speed of the car with a radar gun, then yes, different tire sizes will give you different speeds at the same engine rpm. however, the ecu doesn't compensate for different wheel/tire sizes.

I have an S80 LS tranny and @ 80mph, my car is at 4k, if not a little over. 205/50/15 tires. I hope I have a GSR trans, but I seriously doubt it. 3.5k @ 80mph? I'm always doing 80 and I've never even come close to that. I drive 35 miles each way to work, all highway.

4k at 80 mph with an ls tranny? impossible. my bro drives a 98 gs, and his car is the same as my 99 ls; 3700 at 80. mine, along with several of my friends gsr's are at 4k at 80 mph. sounds like you do have a gsr tranny.
