Default Help:96 Civic SOHC Sparks gets Fuel Cranks Wont Start

I tried to search but found nothing. I have a 96 Civic DX SOHC that I turned out of the store last week and it died wouldnt start.

I have since changed the Cap and the ignition coil. I didnt replace the rotor yet. The first time I cranked it over after I installed the new parts the car nearly started. Checked all 4 plugs and they are all getting sparks.

Any ideas what it could be. The car is also getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel.

I also started started fluid in the intake and nothing.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

well since you said ur getting fuel and spark. lets go back to basic
4 things an engine needs to run are:

1.air
2.fuel
3.compression
4.spark

we have got two of them so lets look for the ones missing start with the easiest one check your air filter make sure its not being plug by anything very rare but it happens, after you comfirmed the you are getting air, do a compression test if all the cylinders pass the compression test and u make sure that all ur sensor(CKP, CAM, TPS, MAP to name a few) are working and tightly plug the check timing, you might have had jumped a teeth or too. good luck

crack the fuel pressure checker nut and crank engine over to see if fuel is actually getting to fuel rail.
also make sure that the ignition rotor is tight and not just flopping around.

New rotor is installed, battery fully charged car nearly started, actually sputtered a little bit.

Any more ideas what the problem could be.

remove the cover around the steering wheel and look at the ignition switch. see if it is burnt and brown

remove your valve cover and remove the timing belt upper cover. move the crank pulley to top dead center.. check the cam timing.. it sounds like its off.
when you get it to top dead center and the UP mark on the cam gear is upside down, spin the crank another revolution. make sure the lines on the cam gear are inline with the cylinder head
