96 Civic ran 2 weeks ago, choking when hit gas pedal, now cranks over but wont start.
Hi.
I live in Torrance Los Angeles and my 96 Honda Civic cranks over but wont start since 1 and half weeks ago.
I put fuel in, started it, and heard choking sounds when accelerating.
I checked many youtube videos and Honda forums for the most common causes, and so I replaced the main relay, checked all my fuses, and still no go.
The videos and forums say the next causes could be in order, the fuel pump 1st, distributor 2nd, and the sparkplugs next but I'm really not sure because I'm not a mechanic.
Can you please tell me how to diagnose properly and repair?
I really need to fix this car because I cant afford towing and a mechanic.
My budget is real short now.
Thank you.

You do the 3 things required to run a motor, air/compression, fuel and spark.
You need to do a cold compression test. Done with Wide Open Throttle when cranking a set amount of cranks per cylinder. Record the results.
You need to check for spark and quality of spark.
You need to check and test for fuel and fuel pressure and quite possibly spray pattern.
Each item can be broken down much further. You may wish to use google to learn the tools and processes. But that is your start.
Best of luck.
