replaced head gasket now car wont start
i replaced the head gasket in my b16 and just finished putting it back together. I did a compression test and all cyl are fine. But now the car wont start. It will turn over like it wants too. I can hear the fuel pump working so i'm pretty sure it's not fuel.
I have an OBD0 and it's giving a "Ignition Output Signal" code other than that i don't know why the car won't start. The distributer was purchase 3 months ago from distributer king so it's still new.
Anyone have any ideas??

the order is correct but i measured the voltage of the battery and it was 17.6v
could that have fried the ignitor in the distributor??
could that have fried the ignitor in the distributor??

First off, dont assume, TEST for fuel and spark. Just because the pump is electronically working doesnt mean its getting fuel to the other end of the system.
Spray some sort of a flammable substance into the intake, crank it over and see if it starts. If it does you have a fuel issue, if it doesnt thats not the problem.
For spark, hopefully you have a spark plug tester of some sort. If not you'll have to get creative and ground the plug wire somewhere.

Find out what under what conditions and parameters the system has to meet to set that code, that will help out a lot in terms of where to start looking. Just because a part is new doesnt mean that its good. Parts are made by humans and humans do make mistakes, something to keep in mind. Hell i bought an NEW alternator not too long ago and its acting like its already going bad on me.

you got 17.6v at the battery?! Check your wiring from the alternator to battery and such for a short of some sort. That amount of voltage is way too high.
good luck and keep us posted

If its no spark issue, its a REALY good chance you set your timing chain wrong. If your cylinders arent top dead center it will crank but not start. Take the spark plugs out and stick some kind of small long rod down the spark plug hole. Turn the crankshaft till you see your stick or whatever you use go to the highest point and youll know its TDC. There should be timing marks somewhere by your crankshaft, even if so this check helps assure your right on TDC. Hope this helps!
