I just installed a catch can

one line running to the black pcv box to the catch can

other running from the rocker cover to the catch can i started the car after one min smoke started to come out of the catch can.

what have i done wrong

the can is doing its job, venting

 

It is normal for smoke to come out of the catch can vent, that is what it suppose to do.

The vent port look small though, might want to make it a little bigger

 

This totally normal, I freaked out when I installed my first one ever lol. But yea the can is doing its job. Now if the can fills up with oil excessivly fast then thats when you should start to worry.

 

If i were you. i would put a filter on the valve cover. then take the hose that u have running to the valve cover and run it to the turbo intake. that will be alot more efficient for the pcv system. And you wont get any smoke...whats happening now the valve cover is pushing air back into the catch can. And its basically pushing air back into the crank case...no good. Here you go.

Actually he is not pushing air back into the crank case if you look carfully there is a fiter on the Catch can.

Please remember that air or anything will take the route with the least resistence, in this case the air will come out thru the filter.

yeah thats true..but now that he has nothing pulling the air out of the pcv valve its much harder for air to come out of it. basically stopping it. this is why out of the factory they didnt just put a filter on the pcv valve..they hooked it up the intake manifold which is a vacuum. So if you hook it up to a turbo intake..when it spools it creates a vacuum and makes the pcv system work again. and its alot better than what he has hooked up now and air comes out alot more easily than before..getting rid of the crank pressure alot faster and better. dont u think?

Sorry to thread-jack, but I have a single cam, I'm gonna buy the block adapter thing to take place of the black box.
Can i run one hose to that, then the other hose to the turbo intake?

 

dont listen to anyone here and just run your catch can, its doing its job fine

The way oem suck it back into the engine is because they cant have it release into the atmosphere.

Again, that stuff is all true. There are laws that prevent pvc from being released into the air. The stock system is faulty bc, when it sucks up the crank pressure, it sucks some oil up with it and dragging it into the intake manifold. Thats the reason when you take the stock manifold off there is a bunch of oil and gunk built up. But putting a vacuum to it, or something that helps drag the air out, is alot better than having it push itself out, and since there is a catch can in the middle there now, no oil will come back into the turbo. Its a much better design this way too bad they have to make stupid laws.

aslong as it isnt puking oil, then ur good.The smoke just means its working, and ur engine has a good amount of blow by.

 

It's perfectly normal to smoke. That's what its supposed to do.

I would upgrade to a little larger filter. How much power are you putting out by the way. I'd also like to see more pictures of this RHD car.

im getting it tuned next week its only a stock b18c will get tunning on 8 psi its on 5 psi right now which is enough it will get around 200kw

 

is your fuel pressure regulator really hooked into your catch can ? i cant tell from the pics, but that is what it looks like to me ?

Obviously the FPR line is about half the diameter of the other line.

If you're smoking that much I would get out your compression tester.

 

Just a quick question.

How long have you being running un-tuned?? Although it may be normal for it to smoke a bit there is a limitation and like Snafubmx234 said get out the compression tester just to check how healthy your motor is?

 

will this catch can setup work on a d16 turbo'd

 

untuned for about 600 km's its getting tuned next week its got now power from 0 - 3000rpm but after that it goes nuts running 5 psi running rich as atm

 

if there is SMOKE coming from the catch can and under the hood at idle while you are sitting something is wrong with the motor... excessive blow by for sure. but the catch can is working good!
