How To: Convert to Distributor-less Ignition (requires standalone)
I probably should have posted this thread in this section rather than tech/misc.

So far I'm making 119wheel hp, 99 ft/lbs of torque (relatively stock engine), and getting 47.5mpg freeway cruising @ 75mph. When your car can do that with less time/effort/money spent, then you can come talk smack.
nice write up adn good god 47.5 mpg
to you.

...oh **** for not be a hybid... I migth pick a eg and try this with the way price of gas is going. now to look for a used AEM EMS. the price of saving on gas will deff offset this.
can you PM some more detail on the install and pro and cons of it?, if you don't mind.

It's almost never cost effective to tune a car for mpg. Keep it stock, keep up with the maintenance, and learn some driving techniques to extend mileage. A used EMS will run about $800. And like many modifications there are a lot of additional costs that go along with it. It would take you many years for the mpg gain to pay for itself unless you drive an unusual amount of miles.
My goal is to maximize mpg while increasing performance and decreasing emissions. Saving money isn't my top priority. Power isn't my top priority. I plan to have this car for a very long time and my goal is to make it into the very best daily driver that I am able to.
Pros
less maintenance parts
more powerful ignition capable of 1500 hp and 10k RPM
more complete and even burn of fuel mixture
more precise ignition timing control
firing on the exhaust stroke may decrease emissions
Cons
cbr coils require screw cap spark plugs
costs money
requires effort
