96 civic ex coupe
I just bought a VTEC y8 automatic and there absolutely nothing modified on the car besides ICW rims and Nitto NEOGEN Z rated tires and a mp3/usb/scandisk radio. For all you enthusiasts, what can i do to get a quick change in acceleration and more of a speed increase in the higher RPM range. I know absolutely nothing about Honda's and my step-dad, who is a Honda mechanic, won't help me modify my car...HELP PLEASE!

Well is it a 5spd if so id just start with intake and exhuast both very easy
if its auto its pretty pointless to modify it (unless you swap it to a 5spd) just my opinion though

then don't waste your money now. Bolt ons with that auto will do basically zilch.

i agree, i would just give the car a good tune-up, clean the TB with intake cleaners maybe that would help

Do you really think you'll be able to feel that and do you think that a manufacturer might sometimes stretch the truth about the capabilities of their product?

we just did a complete tune up of the engine, replaced all belts, seals, replaced the water pump, changed all the fluids. its in perfect physical and mechanical condition at this point
well yall know a lot more about this than i do. if i want to get the most hp for my money, which engine/tranny combo should i go with. Money won't be a real object in a couple months?
It's not worthless. It's a great daily driver. Just work on it as much as you can until you're ready to swap the transmission (or tranny and engine). That or sell it and get a manual in the first place.
Oh, and if you want a 6 speed transmission you'd be getting a K series. Definitely not cheap.

I can vouch on this: It's ... Noisy. The noisiest cold air/short ram air intake system I've ever used. It did make a difference, even on my y8 auto. Not necessarily a $200 difference though.
I'm in the process of a 5-speed swap myself, which'd be a great gain for you.
No more torque converter eating your power in its fluid motion junk
Better gearing so you get to your power band quicker
Relatively cheap to do, about $500-$800 for the entirety of the parts
And, with a legitimate action such as this rather than things other people see as silly (such as CAI, wheels, etc.), perhaps the step-dad would be more willing to help in the process. He's most likely just trying to avoid what he considers 'useless' modifications on the car, as a Honda enthusiast. :-)
