Default barn find Si, HELP!!

Hey everyone I'm new here and am hoping to get some useful help. I picked up a 92 Si H/B that was parked next to a barn 7 years ago after the hood opened on the highway and smashed the windshield. I plan on fixing that stuff but i want to get it running first. Since it was been sitting since 2001, I am planning on changing the oil and filter cleaning the intake and airbox out and changing plugs a replacing the battery. Is there anything else I should do before trying to get this car to start? im am also hoping to siphon what old gas there may be in the gas tank and put a small amount of new gas in it.
Thanks in advance for any and all help i can get!

Thanks for the reply.
What do i have to do to prime the oil pump?
also is the fuel filter located along the frame or at the tank like some GM cars?

The fuel filter is under the hood bolted to the fire wall.Wish you luck getting it started man. Check the plug wires also because rats love chewing on that shizz and if it was next to a barn for 7 years i'm sure those suckers had some fun with it. LOL.

yeah i checked the wires already and they look good. suprisingly i didn't find any mouse droppings or anything of the sort. it was under a tree also and was starting to grow moss on it. I washed it up and cleaned the interior and it is spotless!! being that it was in the shade most of the time, the paint is not faded.
As long as i can get it to run and it not spew oil everywhere, I am stoked about this car!

If anyone knows how to prime the oil pump please chime in!

hopefully i can post pics later today when i'm home from work.

i am going to try to get pictures up of it. my fiance washed it yesterday to get the stuff off of it.
The reason it had been sitting is the girl rear ended someone and while she was waiting to get it into the shop to have the bumper repaired the hood flew up at 75mph and smashed the windshield. it hit so hard the moon roof is cracked also.

It's going to be a project for sure, but as long as i can hear it run first i'll stay motivated to fix it.

Bleeding it will fix that problem if the slave cylinder isnt f'd. Also check the line for leaks but my clutch had the same problem when i got my si and i bled it and its good now.

Congrats on the find!!

do this:

1. New Battery
2. Spark Plugs
3. Siphon old gas and replace with full tank of 91 (or 93 depending on where u live) and a bottle of fuel system cleaner.
4. replace air filter
5. replace fuel filter
6. drive that bitch and have fun!!

also whenever i get like a jdm swap thats been sittin awhile i pull the plugs and pour auto tranny fluid in each piston and let it sit for a day. then a get a shop vac and duct tape a handpump siphon nozzle to it and suc it out. the detergent in the fluid eats the carbon out away from the rings and loosens them back up so they can seal to walls again. it will smoke for a minute whan u start it up but it goes away. i`ve done this 3 times and have never had any probs with the engines i have installed. some old hotrodder turned me onto this.

make sure when you turn it over for the first time to prime the oil pump take the spark plugs out to keep pressure off the unoiled barrings, its been sitting for along time and this will kep it from spinning a rod barring

well i tried starting my car last night. i changed the oil and air filter, pulled the plugs, and put a battery in it. i put the key in and, YES the gas guage was on E!, so i put 2 gallons of 94 octane in it and a little bit a fuel system treatment.so there i was cranking it over and to my horror the gas guage was over a half tank!! so now i know there is a lot of old friggin gas in there, and i have to drain it, ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THE BEST WAY TO DRAIN THE GAS OUT OF THE TANK??

Thanks so far for all the help and advice i have gotten from here.

your probably gonna have too drop the tank and if you have too go ahead and change the strainer on the fuel pump to save you some headaches down the road

I don't know for sure, but I kinda doubt there's a siphon block in the fill tube, If I were you, I'd just try shoving a clear hose down and suck. If your too worried about sallowing gas, get one of those siphon shakers.

i would just finish filling the tank, the new gas will mix with the old gas, find some fuel dryer, like heet, and that will help out with any water that might have condensated in the tank. with gas priced like gold, why throw out the old gas?

Day 2 I drained the gas tank and put 5 gallons of good gas and a half bottle fuel treatment in it... i pulled the line off the fuel rail and made sure gas was going in.... i checked to make sure i have good spark and tried starting it.... found out the alternator is locked up and is smoking my belt... but still no start... will the locked alternator keep the car from starting? aside from a few sputters it didn't act like it was going to.... i took the plugs out and they are all black and fouled now. i even tried disconnecting the fuel line from the engine and spraying starting fluid in the intake just to see if i would try to fire and all i get is a few sputters.... any more ideas?? im starting to think about cutting my losses and selling this thing already.

give me a few days to get out of trial mode and we can talk about that.. i don't wanna get banned or anything while i am asking for help.. the fron end is banged up a little and the hood and windshield is trashed from flying up while doing like 70 MPH.... i would definately have no problem fixing everything on it.... as long as it would start.. i am not in a position to start an engine swap or anything... im dropping too much money on planning a wedding right now

a locked-up alternator can keep the car from starting and make it just sputter. try taking off the alt. belt to know for sure, or try to free up the alt. good luck
