So the Azenis RT615's were not cutting it with consistent laps during 20 min sessions so i decided to try something new and go with the Toyo R1R's. I know there are a couple of other photo comparisons but not many floating around, so i decided to snap some to help you guys out. I have not yet tested these out yet but ill be on the track on the 31st at Buttonwillow, so stay tuned for some reviews against on the RT615's.

what's the treadwear on these?are the comparable in grip to the Azenis?i got a coupon for the R1Rs or R888,and i need some new track tires anyway.not sure if i want to step up to the shorter lifespan of the R888s.

Grip wise i am not sure, i havnt tested them yet. I have heard they are supposed to be stickier then Azenis and are more consistent and not get as greasy during 20 mins sessions. Toyo R1R's are 140 tread wear but depending on each company tread wear #'s always vary. I got them for a great deal, so why not try them?

so the wheel is 0.5 inches wider (higher when flat on the ground like in the pic)
it would have been great on the same size wheels
it would have been great on the same size wheels
Having the tires on two different size wheels doesnt allow us to see a fair comparison.
Here's a pic of 15x7 compared to a 15x5.5, both with 205/50 Ra-1s.

The wider wheel sits taller, even with identical tires.

I purchased a set of the R1Rs as an upgrade from running Azenis RT-615s as well
I'm looking forward to try them out at the track next week. The 195 wide R1Rs are the same width (if not wider) than a 205 wide RT615. I'll try to post a pic of the comparison in here as well. (btw, the 195 R1R was mounted on a 15x6.5 wheel, and the 205 RT615 was on a 15x7 wheel......and still, the 195 R1R was fairly wide in comparison!)
In addition, the R1Rs compound is noticeably a lot softer & stickier just from touch alone! You can stick your finger nail in it just like an R-Comp

From my last track event, i think the R1R's held up to slightly more heat for about another session then the 615's did. R1R's sidewalls are noticeably weaker then the Azenis RT615's. Im giving them another try this weekend at cali speedway.

I was worried about the possible weaker sidewalls. Just curious...what cold PSI did you have the tires set at? I want get a good baseline before I start shredding these tires on the track.

Just a reference for those who believe the pic above is an unfair comparison....
R1R is mounted on a 15x6.5 Spoon SW388 wheel
Azenis is mounted on a 15x7 Kosei K1 wheel.
R1R looks to have the same, if not a slightly wider contact patch, despite being mounted on a 6.5" wide wheel

Ok, so im back from Time attack. The tires worked out great! I am very happy with them. I finally found the right psi they work great at. My last track day they were under pressure. The tires got me my 1st place win in the Street FWD class.

GET OVER IT. You failed to pass tech for street class. There is no point telling everyone you "would have" won. FAIL Henry Ngooyen. Here, have a beer.
