Default 10mm bolt stripped on thermostat housing. HELP PLEASE

okay so i'm changing the thermostat and fan switch on my '95 gsr and well i sorta maybe just a tad stripped 1 of the 2 10mm bolts located on the thermostat housing. reason is because i used a 12point wrench instead of the 6.[]

okay and well only tools i can use at this point would be wrenches....b/c using sockets just simply will not work. there isn't any room. the housing sits right above this lil circule tube that is connected to the tranny.
[EDIT]
THIS IS HOW IT LOOKS RIGHT NOW. WHAT IS THIS MODULE BENEATH IT? THAT BLACK CYLINDER THING THAT SAYS DENSO. CAN I REMOVE THAT? OR SHOULD I NOT. B/C THERE IS NO OTHER WAY OF GETTING TO THAT 10MM BOLT.

that's your starter buddy. you can remove it. there is one short 14 and one long 14 holding it in. you are going to need a good sized extension because the second bolt is on the bottom. btw... you didn't strip the bolt.... you "rounded" off the head.

good luck!

By the black cylinder you mean the starter right. Also ive used some easy out sockets i believe irwin brand of something they have saved my *** a ton of times just make sure you get the right set i think they cost like 20-25 bucks

Drill it out if you can't get it off.

x2 I would definitly try vice grips, if you can't at the bolt with them, you'll have to take your starter off. If the vice grips wont work, I would take a grinder and cut the head of the bolt off, pull off your thermostat housing, and then use vice grips to grab onto whats left of the bolt, and get a new bolt of course. That would be a last resort thing though.

try getting a thin saw zaw or something and saw a line straight through the middle, then use a flat head bit with a ratchet and call it a day=]

dont drill it yet. take the starter off to get some room, and try to hammer an 11mm socket on it. And than get a new bolt.

im guessing you used a socket instead of and open wrench didnt you?

youve got many options... but i wouldnt put an 11mm socket/wrench on that bolt.. its a 10mm head.. use a 9mm socket.. hammer it on there after you take that starter out

I'll give you the best solution as I wrench on cars for a living. Get yourself a 6 point box wrench or a 6 point short 10 mm socket and it should come out no problem. It doesn't look like you rounded it off too bad, as long as there are remnants of flats on the bolt head, a 6 point socket should work. If it doesn't I would try a chisel and a hammer and chisel around the head of it at an angle to break it loose. I know all about rust and removing things the hard way. Living in the rust belt sucks.

i got it offff! [freak] yea. changed everything, flushed the coolant system.

i did seafoam......crankcase, brake booster line, and gas.

drove hard in the freeway, then THE CAR STARTED TO OVERHEAT.

i stopped. checked, everything was okay. turned the car back on and BLASTED THE HEATER. BUT ALL I GOT WAS COOL AIR? drove home with temp all the way at HOT and the air continued to be cool.

now i'm stuck

sounds like you got a bad thermostat. That happens alot if you get your thermostat at Kragen or something. I had to change mind three times in a row because the first two i got was garbage. Stick with the OEM Honda thermostat.
