Taking out A/C Compressor?
The Compressor is the huge *** metal thing right? I heard you can save a lot of weight by taking it out. Does it just unbolt or do I have to do a lot of crap to get it out?
your a/c compressor is located on the bottom of the driver side of the block facing you, looking down it is to the right of your header and its weighs a good 20 pounds. Of course if you take out the compressor you wont have an A/C, if you are really planning on doing this, open up the valves on the A/C lines near the passenger side firewall. This stuff is Freon in 88-91 and under a lot of pressure so stay away so you don't get it on you are inhale. Keep in mind that Freon is toxic and there is a huge fine for letting it into the atmosphere. Once all the pressure is out you can detach the hoses and remove your A/C compressor.
Honestly i dont think it would be worth it unless you have no desire for A/C, i know that Freon costs about 70 buck a lb and i am assuming it would be expensive to refill your A/C system so if you take out the compressor you might as well remove all a/c lines, ac condensor, and evaporator. be careful

if you really want to ditch the a/c have a shop evacuate the system. You can really injure yourself by venting the freon. If you were to get it in your eye it could freeze your your eyeball or some extremity and it damages the ozone like crazy

When you remove the A/C, you need to remove the compressor, condensor and fan, the dryer, all the lines, and the evaporator (this peice is in the car). It saves exactly 42lbs of weight.
I NEED to remove it all? What happens if I don't remove it all? That seems like a lot of work for only 42lbs. I thought the compressor weighed a lot more than that.
the compressor is probably one of the heavier pieces, basically if you remove one piece then non of it works, so you might as well take it all out.
Could I save 40lbs by taking out the center console and the door panels?
See I don't normally drive around like that, but I would like to know what I can do to get below 2000lbs in case I race it or something.
